I will be highlighting the impressive performances shown by the athletes from the South Dakota High School State meet in Sioux Falls at Howard Wood Field. My belief is that Track & Field and Football compliment each other the most in terms of showing the athleticism in most athletes. Not only showing athleticism, but also boosting recruiting stock on an athlete, showing that they are dedicated to more than one sport and strive to be the best in many assets. It may put a lot of question marks from some coaches on paper as well, speed and explosion in jumps and throws. A lot of athletes can compete in many events on the weekend and a lot of those kids are the football players we highlight here at Prep Redzone. Here are some of the top performances in my opinion!

[player_tooltip player_id="273691" first="Jaden" last="Guthmiller"]- (Spearfish) 100m (10.91) & 200m (22.26) AA Champion. Guthmiller came into both races as the #2 seed from prelims and came out on top in both races in finals.
[player_tooltip player_id="273642" first="Tim" last="Bishop"]- (Harrisburg) 100m (11.11), 200m (22.33), and 4x200m relay AA Runner-up. Bishop had a really good track season, registering some of the top times across the state in all of his races. Putting in three runner up performances, two individually and anchoring a relay as well.
Julian Scott- (Rapid City Stevens) 100m (11.35, 5th), 4x100m relay (5th), & 4x200m relay (7th), & 4x400m relay. Qualifying for finals in four running events no matter what they are is just impressive. Shows a lot of versatility running different distances at a fast pace at the biggest meet of the year.

[player_tooltip player_id="56567" first="Nelson" last="Wright"]- (Sioux Falls Roosevelt) 100m (7th), 4x200m relay (4th). Wright was the top seed in the 100m dash with a 10.83 in prelims, however an injury kept him from running a great time in finals, but he still ran and finished the race to score points for his team. Also starting two 4x200m relays to get them top 5 in them.
[player_tooltip player_id="56568" first="Nate" last="Andresen"]- (Brandon Valley) 200m (22.96, 6th), 4x100m relay, & 4x200m relay AA Champion. Started an impressive 4x100m relay team, and ran third leg in another impressive 4x200m relay team, while also placing top 8 in the 200m dash.
Drew Salfrank- (Aberdeen Central) 400m (50.57, 4th), 4x200m relay (6th), 4x400m relay AA Champion, & Sprint Medley relay (4th). This kid sprinted 2 miles on the week, running 200’s or 400’s. That, to me, shows a lot of grit out of a kid, placing top 5 in three events, and just missing top five in a fourth event.
[player_tooltip player_id="101182" first="Aiden" last="Heimann"]- (Aberdeen Central) 300m Hurdles AA Champion (39.96), 4x200m relay (6th), 4x400m relay AA Champion. He also showed a lot of grit not only running long distances, but also jumping over things as well, at a fast pace.
[player_tooltip player_id="101183" first="Tayten" last="Sanow"] & [player_tooltip player_id="101181" first="Griffin" last="Wilde"]: Long Jump (22’8" 2nd)- (Sioux Falls Jefferson) 4x100m relay AA Runner-up, 4x400m relay (4th), & Sprint Medley Relay AA Champion. Top 5 in three relays is always impressive, especially in the different distances of each relay.
[player_tooltip player_id="101157" first="Kael" last="Miedema"]- (Sioux Falls Washington) Shot Put & Discus AA Champion. Big man that can throw things, but the improvement he should over the year shows that he puts in the work to improve technique.
[player_tooltip player_id="101165" first="Jason" last="Maciejczak"]- (Douglas) Shot Put (54’9.75") & Discus (165’8") AA Runner-up. From a bad leg injury to breaking school records and second in the state, good year I’d say.

Austin Gobel- (Yankton) 100m (11.19, 3rd), 200m (23.3, 8th), 4x200m relay (3rd). The youngest competitor that competed and made finals in multiple individual events, look for him on the gridiron next fall.
[player_tooltip player_id="89276" first="Cael" last="Meisman"]- (Rapid City Central) 400m (50.69, 6th), 4x100m relay (3rd), 4x200m relay (5th). Three top-six finishes as a sophomore, great momentum to carry into his Junior season.
