Preseason Predictions: 2022 Breakout Players, Offense

Whether they blow up on the trail or the stat sheet, numerous prospects every year see their stock improve massively. For the 2023 class, it is now or never. These following prospects have been waiting in the shadows for a few seasons, and they are now ready to prove that they have what it takes to produce at a high level. Here are a few prospects from across the state that I believe will break out in a big way. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="326299" first="Dylan" last="Wittke"]</strong> - QB - Buford [player_tooltip player_id="326299" first="Dylan" last="Wittke"] has already become a household name in Georgia, and he has done it without having a plethora of starting experience and elite production at the varsity level. In 2021, Wittke shared time with Stanford QB signee Ashton Daniels en route to a state championship season. Now, in 2022, the Virginia Tech signee is setting himself up for a monster senior season. Even without a whole lot of starting experience at the starting level, his film is good enough reasoning for PO5 programs like Virginia Tech to get in on him. "Creative" is a perfect way to describe Wittke. He makes something out of nothing and does a great job of navigating the pocket without making risky plays. He flashes some decent arm talent too and has one of the quicker releases in the 2023 class. This one should be fairly obvious. With complete control of the offense, I would expect Wittke to end his high school career on a very high note. If I was a Hokie fan, I would be very excited about the future with Wittke at the helm. <iframe src="https://www.hudl.com/embed/video/3/11234912/616c99c05eecc90aacaa5233" width="640" height="360" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen"></iframe> <strong>Luke Logan</strong> - TE - Lambert Logan had a productive junior season which landed him all-region and all-county honors, but he still has more to give. While much of what makes Logan valuable are things that can’t be seen on the stat sheet, like his blocking ability and hustle, he still should be able to blow his receiving totals from a year ago out of the water. In 2021, Logan caught 15 passes for 226 yards and a team-leading 5 TDs. Just by watching his film, it shouldn’t be bold to say he should blow those numbers out of the water. At around 6’5 225 pounds, it is safe to say that his size alone makes him a mismatch, but his rare ability to run, leap, and make people miss makes him a potentially special player. The TE position is starting to become a position that consists of elite blockers with unbelievable athleticism and catching ability, Logan is certainly not an exception. There are numerous FCS offers to his name, and he has the ability to add FBS level offers if he can have another all-region type season. <iframe src="https://www.hudl.com/embed/video/3/12958294/612a54599681220a1ce05aff" width="640" height="360" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen"></iframe> <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="221089" first="Peyton" last="Streko"]</strong> - RB - West Forsyth In 2021, Streko was on pace for a monster season before it was derailed by injury. In just 5 games, Streko finished with over 800 yards and 13 TDs. With a full season, he could have put up historic numbers. Streko has the perfect combination of speed, power, elusiveness, and vision. He is extremely light on his feet which allows him to piece his way around defenders and accelerate to create separation. He also runs low to the ground, which means he can run through a defender if he needs to. To put it simply, Streko is a complete back that deserves to be on the field every single play. Some may argue that over 800 yards and 13 TDs are already enough to be considered a "breakout" player. However, those numbers are truthfully just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what Streko can do when fully healthy. Streko will get an opportunity at the service academies, and I would expect plenty of suitors to get involved if Streko can have a historic season like he has proven he is capable of. <iframe src="https://www.hudl.com/embed/video/3/12732881/6193fc3390ef7d03441a8e62" width="640" height="360" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen"></iframe> <strong>Obadiah Obasuyi</strong> - OT - Alpharetta Obasuyi is another prospect that is committed to a PO5 school despite his best football days being ahead of him. Obasuyi was a guy that I pinpointed a couple of months ago as someone who was underrated. Since then, his recruitment has blown up and he is now committed to NC State. When watching his film from last season, it is clear that Obasuyi was a little raw, but the potential was and still is there. Standing at around 6’6 290, Obasuyi has the prototypical build of an elite offensive lineman, and it looks like he has room to fill out, especially in his lower body. The guy is a relentless blocker in the running game that uses his powerful strides to push defenders out of the way and carve open running holes. Once he learns to use his length and develop some technique in the passing game, then his stock should blow up even more than it already has.
