For the second year in a row, the Dallas Mega-Camp that SMU and TCU host is attracting plenty of talent from the Natural State. The first day of the camp was a success for many prospects from the state of Arkansas. In this article, we are going look at some prospects that performed well in the first day of action at the mega-camp. Many names in this article will not come as a surprise to the folks that have been paying attention.
[player_tooltip player_id="354610" first="Blake" last="Hegwood"]-Wide Receiver-Pine Bluff-2023
The Pine Bluff Zebras are going to be a loaded football team going into the 2022 season. Pine Bluff wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id="354610" first="Blake" last="Hegwood"] put on an impressive performance in Dallas over the weekend. Hegwood shows a good awareness of where he is on the field and the ability to create plenty of separation from opposing defensive backs. He is building some momentum going into the 2022 season and I expect a strong season from the Pine Bluff wide receiver.
Trey Howard-Defensive Back-Little Rock Christian-2024
Little Rock Christian Academy has an effective weapon on both sides of the ball in the form of Trey Howard. Howard has the speed that causes problems for opposing wide receivers. Howard is a prospect that has the hands to pick off passes and take it the other direction. He put on a strong showing in Dallas over the weekend and is a prospect to keep an eye on this season. Howard has the potential for a strong season on both sides of the ball for Little Rock Christian.
[player_tooltip player_id="149595" first="Landon" last="Holcomb"]-Quarterback-Pine Bluff-2024
[player_tooltip player_id="149595" first="Landon" last="Holcomb"] looked extremely sharp this weekend on his throws. Holcomb showed good accuracy when throwing the deep ball. He connected with his wide receivers in stride. Holcomb is a quarterback to watch out for over the next two seasons. He has impressive pocket presence and knows when to use his legs to pick up first downs and when to get rid of the football. Pine Bluff fans should be excited about the talent at the quarterback position over the next few seasons.
[player_tooltip player_id="193150" first="Trevor" last="Martinez"]-Offensive Line-Bentonville-2023
The Bentonville Tigers were well represented in Dallas over the weekend. Martinez is a versatile prospect that can work effectively on both sides of the ball. He performed well in Dallas over the weekend and is someone that does not take a play off. On the offensive side of the ball, Martinez finishes every block. Meanwhile, on the defensive side of the ball he is a player that can stuff the run. Martinez is a prospect that has a chance to take over Friday nights this fall.
[player_tooltip player_id="180294" first="JT" last="Tomescko"]-Athlete-Bentonville-2023
One prospect that continues to show up to camps and take care of business is [player_tooltip player_id="180294" first="JT" last="Tomescko"]. On Saturday, Tomescko allowed no receptions to opposing wide receivers. He displayed plenty of speed and gave opposing wide receivers a tough time in Dallas. Tomescko is a prospect that will see some work on both sides of the ball this coming season. He has had a solid offseason and I look for that trend to continue into the season.
[player_tooltip player_id="75141" first="Donovan" last="Whitten"]-Quarterback-Arkadelphia-2023
The strong performances have continued this weekend in Dallas for the Arkadelphia quarterback. Whitten displayed good accuracy, connecting with his wide receivers in Dallas. Meanwhile, he showcased a strong arm as well. One trait that can get overlooked is the mobility that this prospect has. Whitten has good wheels and is not afraid to get outside of the pocket and pick up yards on the ground. The 2022 season has the potential to be an impressive one for the Arkadelphia quarterback.
