Monthly Recruiting Report: May

The month of May is typically a transitional month on the recruiting calendar. Most 2022 prospects have committed and/or signed with their respective schools while 2023, 2024 and 2025 prospects are beginning to attend camps and generate interest from college coaches on all levels. Many 2023 prospects generally pick up their first offers in the spring prior to the start of the senior seasons. Such was the case for 2023 Cleveland running back <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="138204" first="Josh" last="Perry"]</strong>, who was offered by New Mexico Highlands on May 27. Perry rushed for 605 yards and 10 TD in seven games for Cleveland last season. He missed about a month with an injury but returned in time for the Class 6A state championship game against rival Rio Rancho. “I’m extremely happy to have gotten my first offer,” Perry told Prep Redzone New Mexico, “That was a day I had been looking forward too for a while. Now I just got to keep working hard to secure my second and third offers.” Perry plans to camps with TCU, Eastern New Mexico, New Mexico, Colorado and UTSA over the next several weeks but he could add more schools to his list. Perry told Prep Redzone New Mexico that New Mexico State, Eastern New Mexico, and UTSA have expressed interest. 2024 Cleveland LB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="274701" first="Stratton" last="Shufelt"]</strong>, widely regarded as the state’s top 2024 prospect, received his sixth D1 offer when Sam Houston State, which is moving up to the FBS level and joining Conference USA in 2023, stepped up with an offer on Thursday. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound Shufelt has now been offered by New Mexico, New Mexico State, UTEP, UConn, Idaho State and Sam Houston State before the start of his junior campaign for the Storm.
