<strong>NEW PORT RICHEY J.W. MITCHELL FOOTBALL</strong><strong> 2022. </strong> <strong>Head Coach:</strong> Andy Schmidt <strong>2021 Record:</strong> 8-3 <strong>THE MUSTANGS</strong> When this program finished the regular season 8-2, there was a feeling – like in past years – the magic could propel this program far into the playoffs. It didn't happen. A first-round home loss to Tampa Wharton (15-8) ended the dream of once again reaching the state finals. With some tremendous talent and great coaching, this has become one of the top teams in the region, and while things fell short of the goals set in 2021, there is a great feeling about this upcoming year. Beating Hudson Fivay (43-0), New Port Richey River Ridge (28-0), Tampa Leto (60-0), Tarpon Springs East Lake (25-20), Tampa Gaither (17-14 OT), Hudson, Tampa Sickles (44-28) and Wesley Chapel (42-15) in the regular season, there was plenty to be excited about. Only losses to Wiregrass Ranch (21-6), Largo (35-28) and Wharton in the playoffs were the only setbacks, which has driven this program in the off-season.
