East Texas has long been a breeding ground for great high school football, and along with that, a plethora of talented players. In this article, we’ll explore five talents who would be nice recruiting targets for small college programs - and an up and comer in the 2025 ranks.
<strong><em>QB Jax Stovall – 6’1</em></strong><strong><em>″</em></strong><strong><em> 200 / Spring Hill HS </em></strong><strong><em>—</em></strong><strong><em> @StovallJax</em></strong>
Junior Stats: 1,415 passing yards - 13 touchdowns - 5 interceptions
Stovall is a bit of a hidden gem who would be a perfect fit for a smaller college program. He has great arm strength, shows a lot of poise in the pocket, and puts it right on the money when throwing downfield and over the middle. Shows the ability to squeeze a throw into a tight window and put his team in great position.

<strong><em>LB Luke Baker – 6’2</em></strong><strong><em>″</em></strong><strong><em> 200 / White Oak HS</em></strong>
Baker is a bit of a jack-of-all-trades for the Roughnecks. Lines up at many different positions, but his best fit at the next level is at linebacker. Does a really good job of getting through traffic to make solid tackles on ball carriers, and is also comfortable when roaming and playing in space. Would be a great pickup for a Division 3 program.

<strong><em>WR Zeshaun Reed – 5’11</em></strong><strong><em>″</em></strong><strong><em> 170 / Carlisle HS — @ZeshaunReed -- Class of ’25</em></strong>
Reed was a standout as a freshman for the tiny east Texas program a year ago, and expect him to make big strides this season and put up some impressive numbers. He’s dangerous on both vertical routes and screens, and has enough wiggle to make guys miss in the open field.
Currently has no offers, but you can be sure they will start to come as this young man develops his game in the seasons to come.

<strong><em>G Drew Jones – 6’3</em></strong><strong><em>″</em></strong><strong><em> 280 / Hallsville HS</em></strong>
Jones is an absolute force on the Bobcats’ offensive line. The 5A program started a bit of a rebuild last season, so he may not be getting the attention he deserves on the recruiting trail. Impressive footwork and a nasty demeanor are two qualities the soon-to-be senior has, and he is able to get to the second level consistently, with ease, and pave the way for his running backs.

<strong><em>OT Collin Lloyd – 6’4</em></strong><strong><em>″</em></strong><strong><em> 260 / Shelbyville HS — @CollinLloyd70</em></strong>
A teammate of stud running back Zay Cartwright, Lloyd is a very nice prospect at the 2A east Texas high school. A powerful blocker in the run game, he shows a lot of aggression coming off the line, and always forces defensive linemen backwards. Is solid in pass protection, but would benefit from quicker feet. Would be a great pickup for a smaller program looking to add some blue collar toughness to their offensive line room.
Currently has no offers.
