West Mesa hosted Atrisco Heritage, Cibola and Valley for a 7x7 jamboree filled with action. The No. 1 subject of our interest was new 2024 West Mesa quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="275488" first="Elijah" last="Brody"], who recently transferred from Cleveland to play for his father, Landrick Brody, who was named WMHS head coach earlier this year.
Brody didn’t disappoint, throwing darts and lasers to open receivers all night long. But the star of the show was 2023 West Mesa WR [player_tooltip player_id="138047" first="Chris" last="Johnson"], who made so many catches we needed a calculator to count them all. Although Johnson is listed at 5-foot-7, he’s extremely fast, runs crisp routes and possesses velcro hands. He rarely drops a pass. He would make an outstanding slot receiver at the next level.
