This past weekend, one of the biggest state track and field meets in the country was held, as the top athletes in Iowa filled Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
Among the featured events was the 100-meter dash in all four classes, which included some key players who will look to carry their momentum over into the fall on the football field.

Cedar Rapids Washington put out a top-notch rushing attack in 2021, and with Class 4A 100-meter silver medalist [player_tooltip player_id="105206" first="Miles" last="Thompson"] back, they should be able to do the same. As a junior, Thompson ran for 332 yards and scored six touchdowns, adding five receptions in the pass attack.
Thompson clocked a time of 10.53, which was just off the previous record of 10.50 during the finals. He was also used on defense a year ago and should be another key three-way player for Cedar Rapids Washington by adding his speed to special teams as they look to further grow the program.
[player_tooltip player_id="152536" first="Alex" last="Mota"] - Marion - QB/DB - 6-1 - 175
Marion senior-to-be [player_tooltip player_id="152536" first="Alex" last="Mota"] should enter the 2022 football season with a lot of confidence. Mota was the starter a year ago at quarterback, throwing for almost 900 yards while rushing for another 629. He accounted for five passing and seven TDs on the ground.
In the spring, Mota earned the title of fastest man in Class 3A, capturing the 100-meter dash at state in 10.71. That broke the state record of 10.74 and should leave defenses trembling in the coming months about the thoughts of containing Mota.
[player_tooltip player_id="156484" first="Brevin" last="Doll"] - Adel-ADM - RB - 5-11 - 180
If it wasn’t for [player_tooltip player_id="152536" first="Alex" last="Mota"], [player_tooltip player_id="156484" first="Brevin" last="Doll"] would have claimed the Class 3A 100-meter dash title and broke the previous state record. That should only fuel the fire for Doll as he enters what is expected to be a big junior campaign.
Last year, Doll was one-half of a 1,000-yard duo with teammate Matt Dufoe out of the backfield. Dufoe graduates, leaving Doll and his 1,051 yards and 18 touchdowns to shoulder the load.
Doll, who ran a 10.74 time in the 100, is a dual-threat having caught 13 passes for 268 yards and two scores.
[player_tooltip player_id="104719" first="Bryer" last="Prochniak"] - North Union RB/CB - 6-0 - 175
Coming off a 1,284-yard, 15-touchdown fall, [player_tooltip player_id="104719" first="Bryer" last="Prochniak"] continued to shine in the track this past spring. The senior-to-be was all over the field for North Union last year, adding another 27 receptions for 318 yards and two scores to give him over 1,500 yards of total offense.
Prochniak was a finalist in both the Class 1A 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash.
