New players emerged in the latest update, and we’ve found multiple new running backs across the peach state who had great seasons last fall. Here are some of the top running backs whose stock rose in the latest 2024 Prep Redzone Georgia Rankings.
Makari Bodiford Makari Bodiford 6'0" | 210 lbs | RB McEachern | 2024 State GA – Walton
The tough 6-foot-0 205-pounder was one of the top backs in the region this past fall, rushing for 712 yards and 12 touchdowns at McEachern. Bodiford, one of the top retuning backs in Cobb County, will run the rock for the mighty Walton Raiders in 2022. The rising junior shows good burst and vision for his age and can change directions well for someone 200+ pounds. He looks like an upperclassmen running the ball, falling forward at the end of runs and showing he can break off a long run at any point. He had an impressive year for a sophomore running the ball in 7A, and it’s resulted in multiple D1 offers. He runs hard, runs with balance, and can be a weapon in short-yardage and goal-line situations. He’ll be a breakout player to know for the Raiders and has a chance to lead lead their offense to another deep playoff run. Bodiford is ranked as the No. 72 prospect and No. 7 RB in Georgia according to the latest Prep Redzone Rankings.
Duke Watson Duke Watson 6'0" | 180 lbs | RB Mary Persons | 2024 State GA – Mary Persons
A breakout running back from Middle Georgia last fall, Watson is a natural runner with great burst who can find the end-zone with his eyes closed. He’s a game-changing back with the speed and playmaking ability to take it to the house on any particular play. Watson had an extremely productive sophomore season last year, proving he’s one of the best backs in the area across all classifications. He’s incredible quick and agile for his age and plays bigger than his 5-foot-10 175-pound frame. He’s a smooth runner with balance and the ability to score every time he has the ball. He’s one of the hottest names in Middle Georgia right now and it won’t take long before his recruitment takes off. He ended his sophomore season with 1,716 yards on 224 carries (7.5 yards per carry), which was 3rd most in all of 3A in rushing. He also scored 25 touchdowns in 11 games, showing he’s one of the best backs in Georgia for the 2024 class. He’s now ranked as the No. 51 prospect in the state and No. 3 RB prospect in the newest rankings update.
Micah Welch Micah Welch 5'9" | 195 lbs | RB Baldwin | 2024 State GA – Baldwin
A tough, excellent runner at 5-foot-9 200-pounds, the Middle Georgia back from Milledgeville is coming off one of the best seasons for any sophomore back in the area, rushing for just under 1,000 yards on 140 carries and 19 touchdowns. He’s a strong, physical runner who knows how to break tackles, but has some shiftiness to him as well. He changes directions well for someone 200-pounds and knows how to run hard behind his pads. He might be young, but if you don’t wrap him up properly, Welch is going to make you pay. He consistently falls forward for an extra yard or two, and he rarely goes down at first contact. His big sophomore season is starting to pay off with recent offers from Louisville, N.C State, Ole Miss, among others. He’s now ranked as the No. 42 prospect in Georgia and the No. 3 RB in the latest rankings.
Brandon Hood Brandon Hood 5'11" | 185 lbs | RB Eagle's Landing | 2024 State GA – Eagle’s Landing Christian
A quick, elusive running back out of McDonough, Hood is a 5-foot-10 185-pounder with great vision who knows how to slash through a defense. He changes directions well, he’s great in open space, and he knows how to reach the endzone. He was one of the most productive backs in the area last year, rushing 225 times for close to 1,400 yards and 18 touchdowns. He stays on his feet after initial contact and has a knack for slipping through tackles. He has quick feet, shows good burst, and can take off down the field once he sees an opening. He can turn a busted play into a big one, and he can break off a big run on any particular play. Just a sophomore, Hood was outstanding last year, and will be tough to stop for the rest of his career. He’s now ranked as the No. 69 prospect in the country and the No. 6 RB prospect in the latest Prep Redzone Rankings.
