Continue ReadingThis write up was a bit delayed but here were your top performers on the defensive line from the Select 50 Showcase in Frisco, TX on May 7. One of the biggest takeaways I took from this group at the event was that as a whole they were a raw bunch, who really flashed at times with the upside being evident.
William Adegbenro – 2024 EDGE / DE – 6’1″/210 – Aubrey, TX (The Colony) –
Twitter: @WilliamAdegben5
During drills Adegbenro was one that caught my eye as he was constantly 1st in line while showing loose hips and bend. Then as we got into the 1v1 and pass skelly portion he continued to stand out showing he could win lined up outside and inside with his explosiveness off the snap and impressive power for his size at the point of attack. He even collapsed the pocket on multiple reps lined up inside. He flashed violence in his hands at times, consistent physicality rep after rep along with his ability to flip his hips. Adegbenro will be one to watch in The Colony defense next year with the length, physicality and athleticism he brings off the edge. Will also be watching to see how he continues to develop as a pass rusher along with seeing how much bigger he gets.

Cade Lamb Cade Lamb 6'2" | 225 lbs | DL Columbia | 2024 State TX – 2024 EDGE / DE – 6’1″/215 – West Columbia, TX (Columbia) –
Twitter: @Lamb_Cade
Lamb walked away with the MVP award for the defensive line group with his extremely quick first step playing a major hand in that. The ground he gains with his 1st step closes space in such a hurry that it put OL on their heels right off the snap time and time again. But on top of that he showcased the ability to counter with a suddenness with the body control and feet he brings, which included a nicely timed spin move back inside. He was a tough go all day long for everyone he faced with the grit and fight he brought every rep when he wasn’t able to win immediately with that 1st step. Already holding an offer from UAB as he goes into the summer before his jr year, I’ll be interested to see how much more he progresses physically with more time put into the weight room over the next few years.
Tim Muhammad – 2023 DE / EDGE – 6’5″/220 – Garland, TX (Garland) –
Twitter: @TimMuhammad49
Going into this event, I had already seen Muhammad’s JR film and liked what I saw. But this was the first chance I’ve had to see him up close and man he brings a ton of a room on a long frame to stack weight onto. He tested well on the day clocking consistent 40-yard dashes in the 4.8 range along with a 31.4″ vertical. His 40 could be even faster than what he showed as he was starting from a 4-point stance but ran smooth. During drills, while raw working through them from a technical stand point which seemed more so due to a lack of exposure to them, I liked the flexibility he showed. Once he was able to pin his ears back during 1v1s & pass skelly though, he had one of the better days out of the bunch flashing a swim move, the best rep of the day in my opinion with how he set up an inside counter with fluidity showing in the tweet below along with the awareness to get his hands up in passing lanes. He’ll need time in the weight room, but Muhammad should be getting more attention.

Chima Chineke – 2024 DE / EDGE – 6’5″/225 – Plano, TX (Plano East) –
Twitter: @ChimaChineke1
You want to talk about length for days? That’s exactly what you get with the 2024 prospect as he looked to be the longest prospect in attendance. Like Muhammad, Chineke is raw as well but really liked the twitch he showed off the edge with the frame he brings. The quickness off the edge he displayed on the day along with his length made him a difficult go during 1v1s and the pass skelly portion as he was able to keep OL off his body and utilize his athleticism to penetrate into the backfield in a hurry. With the athletic traits he brings on the frame he has, his upside is through the roof. He already holds a Texas Tech offer but you can bet that’s just the start of it for him and I’ll be keeping a close eye on how he develops over his JR & SR year.

Kalun Blair – 2023 EDGE – 6’1″/207 – Burleson, TX (Burleson) –
Twitter: @KalunBlair
So Blair was one that had scouts attention at the start of the camp with the physique he has and long limbs he brings but when I heard he has only played two-years of football was when it was easy to know to keep my eye out for him throughout the day. During testing he faired well with a 33.1″ vertical and a 9’4″ broad jump. He worked out as a LB and as an EDGE and for someone that’s only played football a few years, he didn’t look like it during his 1v1 reps rushing off the edge I saw though. One rep he strung together a heck of a rush as he utilized a long arm technique and then followed with a 1-handed snatch and swim that almost knocked the TE blocking him to the ground. He then won a few reps winning with his twitchy quicks and doing a nice job fending off blockers that had more length due to getting his hands inside along with flashing some power at the point of attack. NWOSU offered recently but more should follow for the versatile prospect that will be a weapon in the Burleson defense.
Tyler ‘TJ’ Harold – 2023 NG/DT – 6’1″/275 – San Antonio, TX (Clark) –
Twitter: @TJHarold2023
Unlike the rest of the prospects on this list, Harold is a true inside guy as a 1-tech or NG at the next level that can be a clog in the middle vs the run game. But he also showed he can be effective as a pass rusher on this day as well. Watching him during drill work, he showed easy, explosive and fluid movement through bag drills. During 1v1s he also showed some twitch but I also liked that he flashed the ability to contort his upper body while clearing OL off with his hands and keeping his hips square. He flashed violent hands at times showcasing a chop move and club to get the corner on one rep. He took reps as a 3-tech as well but his best reps came when he was lined up over the center either as a 0 or 1-tech where he could win quickly with his hands and explosive movement he brings inside. Harold looks primed to have a solid SR year and should be a key cog on that Clark defensive line.
I really appreciated this opportunity to be able to showcase my talents at the EXOS Select 50 showcase‼️‼️ I learned a a-lot and I can’t wait to get back to work! @Select50Sports @AKing_Evals @FbCougar @XASPT @RealImpactP @Coach_SwiftPT @SATXrecruiting @ATX_Recruiting pic.twitter.com/Nvt6EeHzEw
