Wrapping up our look at last weekend’s Showcase in Murfreesboro, here we breakdown the prospects who had the best performances and who stood out the most among the 130 plus players that were in attendance.
It was tough to narrow things down to a Top 10 as we had tons of strong performers and guys who really stepped up and shined but below are the prospects who we felt broke out and performed at a high level.
1. (DB) [player_tooltip player_id="301351" first="Javon" last="Drake"] (6’1 190) - LaVergne
- This Wolverines defensive back came into the #PRZTN Showcase with a few FCS offers in hand but after his camp performance, expect many others to get involved soon, possibly even D1 programs. Drake has great size, long arms and versatility in the secondary that play up well on the next level. He ran the 2nd fastest time of camp (4.2) and showed why he is one of the more underrated prospects from the in-state senior class.
2. (LB) [player_tooltip player_id="345073" first="Sammy" last="Taylor"] (6’3 190) - Ensworth

- An unknown coming into camp, Taylor made a name for himself last Saturday by running the fastest 40 time of everybody (4.4 flat) and displaying a variety of athletic skills during 1 on 1 competition. This guy is a hidden gem that has big upside and potential on the next level as a hybrid defender that can run and cover but also work close to the line and use his speed as a pass rusher. Look for this guy’s stock to rise big over the coming months.
3. (DE) [player_tooltip player_id="102320" first="Luke" last="Scott"] (6’4 220) - Daniel Boone
- Coming down from East Tennessee to the Boro, Scott zoned in on this camp to help boost his recruiting stock and he did just that. The Blazers edge rusher had the best broad jump (10’1”) and the fastest 40 time of all D-linemen as well as showing off that speed and disruption during 1 on 1 action. Scott is a tall and long edge rusher that does need to keep packing on size but he has been working on that all offseason and it’s starting to pan out. Look for a big summer camp season from this underrated defensive end.
4. (S) [player_tooltip player_id="102334" first="Gavin" last="Smith"] (6’1 190) - Father Ryan
- Sporting nice size with long arms and a physical frame, Smith was one of the more impressive looking defensive backs in attendance and performed quite well during 1 on 1 competition and testing. The biggest thing that stood out about Smith was his ability to flip his hips and continue on the route with the opposing receiver. He earned an offer from Bethel with his camp performance and proved that more schools should be after this Middle Tennessee safety going forward.
5. (Ath) [player_tooltip player_id="301352" first="Rodney" last="Broadnax"], Jr (6’4 215) - Cleveland
- Broadnax, Jr was and is one of the more impressive looking, physical athletes in this state and at camp last Saturday, he displayed those traits and then some. Tall and long with a wide radius, the Blue Raiders two-way athlete was a problem for opposing defenders who had a hard time keeping Broadnax, Jr in front of them and definitely could not contend for the pass when it was thrown high. This East Tennessee product looked great at receiver but his biggest upside might sit best on defense where he can rush the passer or cover in space. I expect Broadnax, Jr to be a highly recruited guy before too long and maybe even become a national recruit.
6. (WR) [player_tooltip player_id="328654" first="David" last="Cole"] (6’5 190) - East Hamilton

- Last Saturday at the #PRZTN Showcase was the 1st time for me to see Cole in person and he is every bit of 6’5 with extremely long arms and a wide frame that can pack on more size. This is an impressive talent that ran well for his size and performed strong during 1 on 1 competition where his size and length was a problem for defensive backs. Cole has already obtained a few FCS offers and I feel he is a guy to watch to not only gain more offers but big ones too from the D1 level.
7. (Ath) [player_tooltip player_id="102289" first="Jayden" last="Miller"] (6’1 200) - McMinn Co.

- Miller came to Murfreesboro on a mission last Saturday as he accomplished a lot by showing off his speed and agility while displaying solid hands and route running, working at receiver. This guy is a former quarterback that may still play that position this season but he knows his future on the next level is somewhere else and proved at camp that he is a versatile weapon that can move and do a variety of things on the football field. UVA-Wise offered on Wednesday night and they won’t be the last!
8. (LB) [player_tooltip player_id="102335" first="Hayden" last="Smith"] (6’1 220) - Westview
- The #PRZTN Showcase was a breakout show for this West Tennessee linebacker as Smith ran an official 4.65 forty then proceeded into 1 on 1 action and dominated his position. His coverage skills were on point and his high football IQ was on full display. Smith produced over 120 tackles last year as a junior and his offseason development with his speed and agility tells me he is in for a bigger year this coming Fall football season. Bethel won’t be his last offer as I feel many more are coming, especially with more performances like last Saturday.
9. ‘24 (WR) [player_tooltip player_id="149160" first="Brock" last="Montgomery"] (6’2 190) - Friendship Christian
- One of the top overall performers from the entire camp was Montgomery where he put up some of the best testing times at any position while running his fastest time to date with a 4.43 forty. This Middle Tennessee wideout not only dominated during testing but he did so during 1 on 1 competition where nobody could stop him. He runs precise routes and is the ultimate competitor going after the ball. Montgomery is a stud in the making that will only get better and better as he matures.
10. ‘24 (S) [player_tooltip player_id="228387" first="Breon" last="White"] (6’0 188) - Northeast

- Coaches and scouts need to start learning about this Clarksville area safety as White brings a lot of strong traits to the football field. He kicked off his stellar camp performance last Saturday by running a 4.47 forty and displayed that speed when covering receivers in 1 on 1’s. White is a well built young man that has the athleticism to man free safety or switch over to strong and play against the run. More is to be developed about White but the traits and skills are there to turn into a possible D1 recruited prospect.
Few Others of Note: (T/G) [player_tooltip player_id="153479" first="Zach" last="Turk"] - Oakland, (WR) Robert Riley - Clarksville, ‘24 (RB) [player_tooltip player_id="150281" first="Ty" last="Clark III"] - FRA, (G/C) Hayden Dozier - Amory (MS), (T/G) Kanye Sawyer - USJ, (DE) Zacchaeus Dixon - Mars Hill (AL), (LB) Devin Geer - Bowling Green (Ky)
