New players emerged in the latest update, and we are happy to rank quite a few defensive backs across the peach state. Here are some new defensive back additions to the latest 2024 Prep Redzone Georgia Rankings.
Kevon Gray – Creekside
There aren’t many programs across the state who produce defensive backs like Creekside, and they’ve got another young cornerback to know in sophomore Kevon Gray. The sure-handed defender has a solid frame at 6-foot-1 170-pounds and has natural cover instincts. He plays with good footwork and does a nice job of turning around and locating the football to make a play on it. He appears to be fundamentally sound and can be physical when he needs too. He also knows how to tackle and can help on the outside in the run game as well. He’s an exciting young defensive back in Atlanta and holds offers from Colorado, Louisville, Indiana, among others. Gray is ranked as the No. 135 prospect in Georgia according to the latest 2024 Rankings.
Joshua Stone Joshua Stone 6'0" | 170 lbs | DB Carver | 2024 State GA – Carver
A versatile defensive back who can line up at cornerback or safety, Stone comes in at No. 132 in the latest rankings. He has good size and length at 6-foot-0 175-pounds and does a good job of reacting quickly with the ball in the air. He’s a smart player for his age and knows how to break up passes in coverage. He’s a sure tackler against the run and knows how to bait quarterbacks into making a tough throw. When the ball is in the air, Stone is athletic enough to come down with it. He made 31 tackles last year, two sacks, and intercepted three passes. He can do a lot of things as a defender, and he’s only going to get better over thee next two years. He’s one of the top 2024 defensive backs in Atlanta, and he holds early offers from Arkansas, Louisville, Mississippi State, among others.
Ronald Moore Ronald Moore 5'10" | 170 lbs | DB Spalding | 2024 State GA – Spalding
A tough, hard-hitting cornerback with ball skills, Moore has a long frame at 5-foot-10 170-pounds and plays bigger than his size. He’s excellent against the run, and if he gets a full head of steam going, he’s going to deliver a big hit. He plays fast, physical, and showed he can make plays in coverage as well. Ranked at No. 130 in the latest rankings, Moore’s big junior season proved why he deserved to be ranked among thee best in the metro-Atlanta area. He plays the sideline well and knows how to cover bigger receivers on the outside. He uses his long arms well and has a knack for breaking up passes at the last minute. It’s easy to see his D1 potential, and he already holds one major offer from Maryland. In 9 games as a sophomore last year, Moore made 27 tackles, one INT, four pass breakups, and scored one defensive touchdown.
Israel Boyce – Douglas County
Another young cornerback from Atlanta, Boyce is an instinctual defensive back with impressive ball skills. He’s a natural in coverage and can stop and change directions on a dime. He shows good footwork and closing speed in the back end, consistently finding a way to break the pass up. He has decent size at 6-foot-0 175-pounds and gives it his all on every play. His natural cover skills is a big reason why he comes in at No. 120 in the newest update. His ball skills translate well to offense, and there’s a chance Boyce gets more opportunities there this fall. As of now, he’s an impressive “under the radar” defensive back who is bound for a really big junior season in 2022.
