New players emerged in the latest update, and we are happy to rank a number of different “under the radar” running backs in Middle Georgia. Here are some new Middle Georgia running back additions to the latest 2023 Prep Redzone Georgia Rankings.
Malcolm Brown Malcolm Brown 5'10" | 180 lbs | RB Warner Robins | 2023 State GA – Warner Robins
The Warner Robins Demons are one of the top programs across Georgia, and a big reason why is because of their consistent rushing attack. They had one of the best in the area last year in Brown, who comes in at No. 154 in the newest rankings. Brown has an impressive blend of size and speed at 5-foot-11 180-pounds and helped lead the way to another state championship for the Demons. He’s a strong downhill runner who knows how to hit the hole hard and take off down the field. He’s not a speedster, but he does have the ability to break a long run on any particular play. He’s also a weapon in the passing game and shows reliable hands out of the backfield. As a junior last fall, Brown rushed 133 times for 892 yards and 14 touchdowns. Look for him to have an even bigger season this fall as a senior.
Jahvon Butler Jahvon Butler 5'10" | 215 lbs | RB Bleckley County | 2023 State GA – Bleckley County
A tough, physical back from Middle Georgia, the Bleckley County back put the Royals on his back a good bit this season and was extremely productive, rushing 246 times for 1,460 yards and 18 touchdowns on the season. That’s why he’s earned a spot in the latest Prep Redzone Rankings. He’s a physical back who can bounce off tackles and pick up tough yards. He has impressive lower body strength and can fall forward at the end of runs for extra yards. He can bounce off tackles and keep balanced, punishing defenders over and over as the game goes along. He rushed for over 100+ yards in seven games this fall and rushed for at least one touchdown in ever game. He’ll be a impact back to know in the classification next fall as a senior.
Chris McMillian Chris McMillian 5'10" | 185 lbs | RB Peach County | 2023 State GA – Peach County
Peach County always produces talent, and they have a 2023 running back who showed a lot of promise and potential last year, and that’s why he comes in at No. 247 in the newest Prep Redzone Rankings. As a junior last year for the Trojans, McMillian led the team in rushing with 138 carries for 715 yards and 7 touchdowns. He also showed some versatility as he made plays in the passing game as well, catching 13 passes for another 171 yards and one touchdowns. He’s a smaller, quicker back at 5-foot-9, but he has muscle on his frame at 185-pounds. He changes direction well, shows good burst, and can make defenders miss. He’s tough to tackle in the open field and runs with impressive balance. He’s hard to trip up and does a nice job of working the sideline. He’s a Middle Georgia back to know with the potential to have a giant senior season.
Autavius Ison Autavius Ison 6'0" | 205 lbs | RB Riverdale | 2023 State GA – Macon County
Ranked at No. 252 in the Prep Redzone Rankings was one of the most productive backs in all of Georgia last year. The big-play threat was looking to score on each carry, and he has the quickness and explosiveness to make it happen. He’s a shift back with quick feet who knows how to naturally elude defenders. He’s fun to watch, and while he doesn’t play against the best competition on a weekly basis, he’s fun to watch every Friday night. He ran through defenses consistently, rushing for 142 yards per game last season. He’s a gifted back with good instincts, and when you combine that with his quick burst up the field, it’s easy to see why he was so successful last fall. He ended his junior season with 1,712 total rushing yards and 20 touchdowns.
