Championship 7v7 hosted the Mile High Football Classic in Denver this weekend with a turnout of teams from multiple states.
The two-day event ended with champions being crowned for the 15U and 18U levels, which were won by Colorado teams. The 15U champions were the 5280 Ambush while the 18U champions were none other than Team Full Gorilla.
This article will look at six players—three from each team—who put on spotlight-worthy performances during their championship run.
5280 Ambush 15U Champion Standouts
[player_tooltip player_id="232153" first="Austyn" last="Modrzewski"] | Mountain Vista | 6’4”, 185lbs | 2025 QB
Modrzewski is a highly talented quarterback who checks all of the boxes of a premier prospect. He is a methodical passer who calmly and quickly goes through his progressions and makes the right reads. His timing and accuracy are extremely impressive, and his ability to place the ball out in front of the receiver on every out-route and deep throw is a next-level talent. Modrzewski’s football IQ and accuracy helped him avoid mistakes and turnovers, which resulted in him leading the 5280 Ambush 15U squad to victory.

Austin Scheich | Mountain Vista | 2025 Safety
Scheich is a newcomer who made a strong introduction for himself during the tournament. The safety position is a tough one to play, but Scheich does so in a way that makes it look effortless for him. What made him stand out was his ability to take charge of the defense and bark out commands to his teammates. Communication is vital on defense, and his ability to do so was quite impressive. Scheich was locked in on every play, flowing through coverage with smooth backpedals and weaves, then breaking on throws and making plays on the ball.
[player_tooltip player_id="232167" first="Chris" last="Smith"] | Mountain Vista | 5’8”, 175lbs | 2025 RB/LB
Smith is a radar pop-up who put on an excellent performance during the event. He has good size and impressive speed. With 7-on-7 being a passing game, he was able to show his skills as a viable option in the passing game. One thing that stood out about him was his ability to provide leadership and help keep his teammates focused on the mission. Smith is a player with a solid frame and explosive acceleration who showed his versatility as a receiver en route to winning the championship.
Team Full Gorilla 18U Champion Standouts
[player_tooltip player_id="22744" first="Brayden" last="Dorman"] | Vista Ridge | 2023 QB
Dorman is the top quarterback in the state who committed to Arizona earlier this year. It is no surprise that the elite QB was able to lead his team to the championship for the older age bracket. He goes through his progressions quickly and hits his receivers with accurate passes on every throw. His arm strength is phenomenal, leaving spectators in a trance whenever he drops an accurate deep bomb. Dorman’s final high school season will be one to watch, but his career at Arizona is worth being excited over.

[player_tooltip player_id="22764" first="Brandon" last="Hills"] | Vista Ridge | 5’9”, 155lbs | 2023 WR
Hills is a rising star with significant upside to his game. His explosive acceleration and legitimate track speed made him almost impossible to cover. He showed his shifty route-running skills and reliable hands during the event, which made him an unstoppable scoring machine all weekend. Hills has started to see his recruiting take off, but it is just the beginning of his journey to becoming one of the top recruits in the state.
[player_tooltip player_id="22765" first="DeAndre" last="Horn"] | Rock Canyon | 6’4”, 220lbs | 2023 TE
Horn showed up and showed out during the event. His size, speed, and athleticism made him one of the more dominant players every time he stepped onto the field. He was a prime passing target in every one-on-one situation and whenever his team reached the goaline. He even showed his versatility as a defender, playing middle linebacker and showing strong coverage skills. Horn is another player whose recruiting has started to take off, yet he is still a slept-on player with significant upside.
