To be slept on means that you posses a high level of talent and potential that hasn’t been recognized or highly publicized for whatever reason. There are many talented athletes all over the state that fit in this category but here are a few names for you to keep an eye on.
Ethan Thomas – Rockwall High school- Class of 2023
Ethan is a 6’4 240 pound Tight end / H-back prospect out of Rockwall, Texas.
What impressed me the most about Ethan’s film was how he was able to get movement and rerun his feet at the point of attack. He is going to play Tight end and H back for Rockwall but at 6’4 he has the frame and length to contribute on either side of the ball. He ran smooth routes and did a good job straining to finish his blocking assignment in the run game. He has shown flashes of dominance so far in spring practices and will be a huge key to their run game in the fall.
Kehinde Kenny Atunrase – Cole High school- Class of 2024
Kenny is a 6’3 220 pound Tight end out of San Antonio, Texas. Kenny is a huge target with soft hands that can threaten the defense vertically and hold his own at the point of attack in the run game. On tape he did a great job of firing off with pad level and knocking guys back with hand control. He may only weigh 220 pounds but he is strong and plays like a guy that is 250+ pounds. He recently hang cleaned 285 pounds with relatively clean technique which is indicative of the explosion he posses in his lower body. Along with being a stud at tight end he spilts time playing defensive end and in my opinion he could play either position at the next level.
Drew Perez – Southlake Highschool- Class of 2023
The class of 2023 is loaded with talented guys but one of the most slept on tackles is hands down Drew Perez. The 6’8 320 pounder has had a huge spring of development so far. He has visibly improved his core strength, quickness, jump set and hand placement. He recently picked up full ride scholarship offers from San Diego State university, and the University of Colorado. With his length, intangibles, and progress this spring I expect for more schools to throw their hat in the ring and offer him soon as well.
Noah Ponce – Duncanville Highschool – Class of 2023
Noah is a 6’1 270 pound center and long snapper out of Duncanville Texas. Noah is a stout prospect that has developed himself into a player since transferring to Duncanville. He has been rock steady for them in the middle and will be a integral part in them being able to make a deep play off run next year. I recently caught up with his position coach Xavier Joe and he had rave reviews about Noah’s development and toughness going to the spring. From my perspective he has a great baseline of technique, footwork, and a great foot IQ, and this fall is going to be a huge test and opportunity for him to prove himself.
