Small town football players sometimes get overlooked on the recruiting trail. In this article, we will take a look at four gems in towns you may have never heard of – and a do-it-all dual threat quarterback in Victoria who amassed over 3,000 total yards last season.
QB Jadon Williams — 6’0″ 195 / Victoria East HS — @JadonMwilliams
Junior Stats:Â 3,034 total yards, 31 touchdowns
There’s a lot to like about Williams’s game, especially athletically. Don’t blink, because he can turn a collapsed pocket-play into a 75-yard touchdown run in an instant. He always keeps his eyes downfield and does an outstanding job of hitting his receivers in stride. He’s also a dangerous red zone threat, because of his intermediate accuracy and dangerous cut-back ability as a runner. At the next level, he will thrive in a wide-open offense that emphasizes RPOs and gives him a chance to create in open space. Ran for over 1,000 yards as a junior.

WR Joe “Lil Joe Bob” Bryant — 6’4″ 200 / New Waverly HS — @Joe_Bryant5
Travel 15 minutes south of Huntsville to the small town of New Waverly – population of just over 1,000 – and you will find a true outside weapon in Joe Bryant. A season ago, he garnered First Team All-District honors, and this fall should be no different. Bryant high points the football as well as any receiver in this class, shows some nice strength to fend off tacklers, and flashes great ability as a perimeter blocker. If you’re looking for a high upside receiver to add to your 2023 recruiting class, you’ve found him.

RB Malik Stotts — 6’3″ 185 / Joaquin HS — @Malik_Stotts
Junior Stats:Â 1,156 all-purpose yards and 18 touchdowns
Stotts is a well put together running back in the small far east Texas town of Joaquin – population 734. He uses excellent vision to find the crease, and is quite slippery in the open field. Dominant on the 2A level, he will need to put on some weight in order to have the same level of success at the college level. Malik is definitely one to keep an eye on throughout the fall.

RB Lataviouce Easterling — 6’1″ 210 / Lovelady HS — @Lataviouce
The small town of Lovelady – population 635 – has a very talented soon-to-be senior running back that doesn’t have any offers yet. Easterling is a physical, between the tackles power back who would rather run over you than around you. Additionally, he displays some nice one-cut ability and gets downhill in a hurry.  Complete with a nice stiff-arm, he will be a good one to have in the backfield for a team that utilizes a power run game.

TE Dylan Schaub — 6’5″ 210 / New Waverly HS — @DylanSchaub28
Schaub lines up all over the field for the Bulldogs, but I think he’ll find a college home as a tight end. He’s got the size and skills to develop into a great in-line run blocker, and he also shows that he can be a reliable short-to-intermediate target in the passing game.
