Gunslingers everywhere.
Big-armed quarterbacks abound in the rankings, and nowhere is it more evident than at the top of the list. Five of the top 25 players in the class are QBs, including three of the top 8. Here’s a look at the names everyone is going to know behind center in the fall.
Zolten Osborne Zolten Osborne 6'2" | 205 lbs | QB Fort Dorchester | 2023 State SC , Fort Dorchester: No. 1 QB (No. 3 overall)
The top-ranked QB in the class, there isn’t a throw Osborne can’t make. Deep middle, outside the numbers, timing routes, touch – he’s pretty much got it all. Osborne had 3,512 yards last season, completed 69 percent of his passes, and accounted for 38 total TDs. He’s got offers beginning to come in, and there’s no denying the huge upside and potential here.
Raheim Jeter Raheim Jeter 6'3" | 220 lbs | QB Spartanburg | 2023 State SC , Spartanburg: No. 2 QB (No. 5 overall)
Jeter’s a winner, plain and simple. The Vikings were very, very good last season, advancing to the 5A Upper State final. They were MUCH better with Jeter in the lineup, reeling off a string of wins when he returned from a minor injury early in the season. He helped rally the team from a double-digit deficit to win the Region II-5A title, and the West Virginia commit has the arm, talent, and toughness to make him one of the marquee players in the class.
Grayson Loftis Grayson Loftis 6'2" | 175 lbs | QB Gaffney | 2023 State SC , Gaffney: No. 3 QB (No. 8 overall)
Speaking of winners, how about the guy who helped engineer Gaffney’s upset win over Dutch Fork to snap the Foxes’ 5A title streak? We’ve said it before – Loftis (pictured) might be the most intriguing player in the class. All the intangibles are there, as are the numbers. Loftis threw for more than 2,300 yards and 24 touchdowns, and did it in a year when Gaffney’s top two backs combined to rush for more than 3,000. He made plenty of plays, but wasn’t necessarily the focus. This year, he might have to be as Gaffney tries to replace that ground game. The Duke commit looks more than capable. He’s one of the players who routinely makes “how did he do that?” throws.
LaNorris Sellers LaNorris Sellers 6'3" | 215 lbs | QB South Florence | 2023 State SC , South Florence: No. 4 QB (No. 14 overall)
Sellers is a big, strong kid with a big, strong arm. He can make plenty of plays with that cannon, and is tough to bring down when he decides to run. He’s got a ton of weapons around him, and could help the Bruins have a huge year. He’s committed to Syracuse, but there could be more suitors waiting in the wings.
Carson Black Carson Black 6'3" | 190 lbs | QB Nation Ford | 2023 State SC , Nation Ford: No. 5 QB (No. 25 overall)
Black has great pocket presence, gets the ball away quickly, and makes good decisions. He threw for 2,771 yards and 27 touchdowns last season, and could help lead the Falcons to a breakout season this year. He’s got offers from a number of ACC and SEC programs and from 2021 CFP team Cincinnati, among others.
