Most of them even have dreams of playing at the next level, or even the NFL for that matter, so they spend each and everyday grinding and putting in work! Even though they are still developing and training, do not sleep on them. They will make a coach proud that they were able to have young guns like these fine young men on this list. Straightaway, let’s recognize some of the best upcoming freshmen in the city of Austin.
Brendyn Mitchell- 6’2 240Ibs/DT/ Cedar Ridge High School
Analysis: Brendyn Mitchell is currently excelling at the defensive tackle position. The reason being is because he is getting a good amount of sacks and hits on the quarterback. He is also shedding blocks fairly well and with more training and focus on his technique, he could possibly play the end position! Mitchell has a solid frame as well, and will only grow the more he puts on muscle. Finally, he is a decent tackler, but he will need to improve on his fundamental tackling skills. Despite this, he is still a player to account for in the future.
Dagan Mitchell- 6’4 202Ibs/DE,TE/ Vista Ridge High School
Analysis: Dagan Mitchell is a superb defensive end! He is one of the best ends I have seen in this class. Mitchell is extremely tenacious and explosive off of the line! He forces many fumbles and sacks as well. When it comes to rushing the passer, he has shown great speed and physicality laying the hat on quarterbacks left and right. He has a very solid build for a freshman and will only get bigger and stronger. Mitchell loves to use his hands and arms to swim around blocks as well, which is a very good technique to use at the position. In the future, I see him becoming a break out player!
Eric Hardgrave- 5’6 150Ibs/RB/ Vista Ridge High School
Analysis: Eric Hardgrave is a dog on the field! Even though he is not the fastest, clocking a 4.78 40 yard dash time, this young man runs strong and trucks defenders with ease. He can carry defenders yards down the field as well! He does a really great job at waiting for his blocks to set up and hitting the holes at the right time using his tremendous vision! When he runs the ball, Hardgrave tries his best not to go down, and takes pride on running tough and getting the extra yards. Watch out for this young man in the future for the next three years!
Romelo Boykin- 6’0 150Ibs/WR,SS/ Hendrickson High School
Analysis: Romelo Boykin is an interesting underclassman at the wide receiver position. He has decent route running skills, but still needs improvement on his mechanics and footwork. Then his quickness in and out of cuts will improve the more he plays and trains. Besides that, Boykin has good hands and does an excellent job at adjusting to the ball in order to make great catches. He has the potential to become a lethal outside the numbers receiver. Due to his long arms, he has the ability to go up and grab just about any ball thrown his way. At the safety position, he has very good jump ball skills which allows him to acquire many interceptions. Boykin is one player that you must keep an eye on moving forward.
Braeton Anderson- 5’9 150Ibs/WR,CB/ Hutto High School
Analysis: Braeton Anderson is an underrated player that can develop into a premier player in the future. With decent speed, running a 4.7 as just a freshman, Anderson can pull away from many defenders after the catch. His route running can still use improvement, but he still possesses soft hands. Then, Anderson has shown his playmaking abilities by breaking tackles when cutting back in the other direction using his good ball carry vision to find the open gaps! Finally, Braeton Anderson has the potential to become a great special teams player with his ability to break away from defenders while using his explosion and burst. In the future, I see him becoming a prominent player the more he develops for the next three years!
