The running back position is one of the most prominent positions known in the game of football. It requires you to have power, endurance, speed, soft hands, and good vision in order to be an effective running back. Austin, Texas has many under the radar running backs that have the potential to turn into superstars due to their play on the gridiron. We will name five running backs that are looking forward to having a great 2022 fall football season! These players play with grit and toughness as well, which is why they have made this list! [player_tooltip player_id="276104" first="Karlos" last="Jackson II"]- 5’10 185Ibs/RB/ Cedar Ridge High School Analysis: Karlos Jackson is a running back to account for every game. He also put up decent combine numbers running a 4.8 40 yard dash, while benching 195Ibs, and squatting 305Ibs. Jackson does a superb job of using his vision to run in between the tackles. He stays upright on contact and does not go down on first contact. Even though he is not fast, Jackson runs with power and still has enough quickness to juke out defenders. This kid is a bowling ball to corner backs and other defenders due to his stature and build. Finally he does a great job at patiently setting up his blocks and hitting the holes with explosion! James Iduante- 5’7 170Ibs/RB/ Anderson High School Analysis: James Iduante is extremely underrated in the city of Austin. He put up impressive combine numbers showing his strength and decent speed. He benches 250Ibs, runs a 4.69 40 yard dash, and squats 495 pounds which is tremendous for a guy his size! Also, Iduante has a good vertical jumping 32 inches. James Iduante is a lethal receiving weapon! He has made some really good catches outside the numbers, as well as in the box coming out of the backfield. Also, he is elusive and possesses great ball carry vision allowing him to gain tough yards. He is also a physical hard running tail back which is why he is on track to having an even better senior season! Oscar Gonzalez- 5’8 132Ibs/RB/ Navarro Early College High School Analysis: Oscar Gonzalez has the ability to play both sides of the ball. He has decent speed and can make great tackles when needed. Oscar did not have a lot of film on him, but based on what he has shown, he has the talent to become a premier running back. Gonzalez does a good job reading the holes and waiting until they open up. He is very underweight but runs with physical toughness and can also catch the ball out of the backfield. In the future, with more training and development, Gonzalez is one of those guys who can easily sneak up on you and become a problem for opponents. Anthony Rodriguez- 5’10 160Ibs/RB/ Austin High School Analysis: Anthony Rodriguez is a back that should have a better season in 2022. He can make plays on special teams as well. On offense, he shows that he can stay upright on contact and delivers blows as well. Rodriguez is an explosive running back as well when he gets going. When his blocks are set up correctly, he is a home run threat. Even though he is not the fastest or quickest, he can still pull away from defenders at any given moment and is elusive enough to fake out defenders! He also has very good lower body strength which is vital for a running back. Look for him for the upcoming 2022 football season in the fall! [player_tooltip player_id="121975" first="Sedrick" last="Alexander"]- 5’9 190Ibs/RB/ LBJ High School Analysis: [player_tooltip player_id="121975" first="Sedrick" last="Alexander"] is a really good running back to watch for this year. Last year he racked up 2,241 rushing yards and an astounding 30 touchdowns! He clocked a 4.57 40, and bench presses 245Ibs as well, and clocked a 4.14 shuttle time, showing his quickness. He can take it to the house when given the opportunity to do so. He has really good hands out of the backfield, and runs with physicality as well. Alexander is a phenomenal run blocker as well, and he does a really good job at protecting his quarterback. Look for him to have an outstanding senior year ladies and gentlemen!
