Here are some under the radar receivers in North Georgia to know about for the 2022 season…
An impressive wideout from up in the North Georgia mountains, Lacy was one of the more productive receivers in the area last fall and showed game-changing ability with the ball in his hands. He only caught 44 passes last year, but he took them for 10,23 yards for an average of 23.3 yards per receptions. That’s making every catch matter, and it’s what he did all season long. The 5-foot-10 155-pounder isn’t the biggest guy on the field, a precise route runner and showed he can break off a long run and take it to the house any time he touches the ball. Lacy is quick, shifty, and can make people miss with ease in the open field. He’s obviously an explosive weapon who should see more passes his way in 2022. Expect him to be one of the more productive receivers in all of North Georgia next season.
Darius Cannon – Gainesville
One of the top wide receiver prospects in North Georgia, Cannon is a former White County standout who will now play his final season with the high-powered Gainesville Red Elephants. Cannon has plenty of speed and is incredibly dangerous after the catch. He’s elusive, makes defenders miss, and showed exceptional ball skills last season. The 5-foot-10 170-pounds has reliable hands and knows how to high-point the football. He’s at his best when he has room to run, and does a good job of eluding defenders down the field. He’s a natural at the position and has a chance to see more offers come his way this spring. Cannon earned his first offer last week from UNLV, and more are likely on the way. As a junior last fall, Cannon caught 53 passes for 785 yards and 8 touchdowns.
Marcus Pike – Pickens County
A big-bodied receiver with length and big hands at 6-foot-3 200-pounds, Pike quietly had a very good season for the Pickens County Dragons as a sophomore last fall. He’s a downfield threat with impressive body control. He can catch the ball well in tight coverage and works the sideline well. He’s not a burner, but he’s a reliable weapon who can bring in a long pass down the field. He’s a red-zone weapon in jump-ball situations due to size size and overall length. He shows athleticism for his size and was one of the top sophomore receivers in North Georgia last year. In 2021, Pike caught 34 passes for 668 yards, which came out to an impressive 19.6 yards per catch. He also scored five touchdowns on the season. He’s one of the top returning receivers in the area and he’d bound for a breakout season in 2022 as a junior.
Lake Thoman – Denmark
In-between Atlanta and the North Georgia mountains is where you’ll find an impressive under the radar receiver in Lake Thoman. The Alpharetta native at Denmark High School was a go-to weapon on offense last year for the Danes, catching 34 passes for 705 yards and 4 touchdowns. He’s an exceptional route runner with reliable hands who knows how to pick up yards after the catch. He has decent size at 5-foot-11 170-pounds and knows how to create separation. He’s a natural receiver and is expected to have a big senior season while the Danes try to repeat as region champs. Last fall, Thoman earned 1st-team All-Region honors as well as the 2nd-team All Forsyth County team.
