At the running back position, these young athletes have shown grit, power, speed, hands, you name it! They have helped their team exponentially and will all be key factors in their team’s offense for the upcoming year. Whether they are still developing, or a stud, these young men have proven themselves worthy to be named amongst the best of the best. Let’s take a look at the top running backs in San Antonio six through ten!
TJ Andrews- 6’2 195Ibs/RB/ Taft High School
Analysis: TJ Andrews is a very good power back that plays physical and runs through the holes when it sees it. He does not have the greatest speed in the world but he is extremely difficult to bring down. This young man also has good hands and shows good explosion out of the backfield. Be on the lookout for him this upcoming season!
Nick Varelas- 5’10 196Ibs/RB/ Clark High School
Analysis: Nikos Varelas racked up a total of 1,457 purpose yards and has the brains to go along with it maintaining a 3.96 GPA. This young man has great power and strength. Next he also possesses soft good hands out of the back field which allows him to become an extra weapon. He is not afraid to block and he has good vision searching for the open hole as a running back! This young man has a bright future ahead of him! Finally, you can also put Varelas in the slot position to spread your offense. Moving forward, this man will have the potential to play at the next level.
Shastin Golden- 6’0 170Ibs/RB/ Davenport High School
Analysis: Shastin Golden is an excellent back to look for this upcoming season. He racked a total of 1,046 rushing yards, 7.18 yards per carry, 13 rushing touchdowns, and 5 receiving touchdowns. He possesses great elusiveness. Then he has good open field speed and uses his vision well to make big plays for his team. He also runs the ball with a physical attitude which allows him to plow for extra yards. Golden possesses good hands in the passing game and he also runs with patience as well!
Keshaun Rodgers- 5’10 200Ibs/RB/ Madison High School
Analysis: Keshaun Rodgers is another top running back to look out for in the future With a 4.6 40 yard dash, Keshaun Rodgers shows that he has the talent to compete with the best of them as well. He has very good strength for a running back his size, patient, shows good ball carry vision, and is not afraid to lower his shoulder! This young man is also a physical blocker when needed to. In a total of 4 games, he racked up a total of 48 carries for 295 rushing yards, 2 touchdowns, and 4 receptions for 21 yards.
Jacob Gonzales- 5’9 170Ibs/RB/ Harlan High School
Analysis: Jacob Gonzales is a phenomenal back to watch out for in the future. In the running game his stats are legit, racking up 199 carries, 1,300 plus rushing yards with 6.7 yards per carry, 31 receptions for 380 yards, and 2,100 plus all- purpose yards with a total of 24 touchdowns! That is an amazing season. Gonzales was an Unanimous first team All- District running back , as well as All- City running back which is tremendous. He is also a great weapon on special teams and is very fast in the open field! He possesses great hands, agility, and ball carry vision. Look for this young man to have another excellent year along with some big time offers!
