Continue ReadingLast time, we took a look at five premier linebackers that has made an impact not only on their team, but around the city of San Antonio as well. These players are not ranked in numerical order. These linebackers stood out from the pack based on their gameplay on the gridiron. Again, they play with much discipline, physicality, and makes key plays for their defenses which can turn the momentum of a game around. With that being said, let’s waste no more time, and take a look at some of the best linebackers in San Antonio players six through ten!
Travion Smith- 6’1 240Ibs/OLB,MLB/ Samuel Clemens High School
Analysis: Travion Smith is an under the radar linebacker that will be looking to get some more exposure this upcoming season! He has a very solid frame for the linebacker position, and uses that to his advantage. He is a hard hitting linebacker with good tackling skills in the trenches, and in the open field. He is very good at shedding blocks from offensive linemen, and receivers. Next, he possesses decent speed and can force fumbles when he has to! Look for this young man to improve going forward.
Karson Solis- 6’4 201Ibs/LB/ Cornerstone Christian High School
Analysis: Karen Solis is a monster on the field. In the passing game, he does a very good job at getting his hands up with his long arms to deflect passes. He also does a very good job at forcing fumbles as well as recovering the forced fumble. This young prospect has the potential to compete at the next level with this kind of play. His closing speed is tremendous as well when he rushes the quarterback off of the edge. Also, he is a really good Blitzer and an excellent tackler in the holes as well as in the open field. Solis plays with toughness and physicality which is what you want in a linebacker.
Kaeden Baerwald- 6’0 200Ibs/OLB/ New Braunfels High School
Analysis: Mr. Baerwald is very explosive off of the edge. He is very fast for a linebacker with his stature, and is looking to lay the wood every play. When it comes to pass rushing, he is extremely dangerous because he is very difficult to block on the edge! Furthermore, this young man is also superb when he tackles opponents. He also plays with a high motor which allows his team to make plays in crunch time. Baerwald is very underrated in the city of San Antonio, but he has the ability to go out their and make a big name for himself!
Wynzolyn Calhoun- 6’0 230Ibs/LB/ Sam Houston High School
Analysis: Wynzolyn Calhoun is special when it comes to playing linebacker! His timing when it comes to blitzing is like none other. Being a solid 230Ibs in the middle, Calhoun is like a brick wall to running backs. He has good speed, size, and strength which allows him to be a very physical player as well. Also, he has good gap discipline and is not easily fooled on which way the ball is going. He hustles on every play and does not stop until the ball carrier is down. With some more development and training, he can become a huge recruit at the linebacker position. He is another guy to watch out for this year!
Keyandre Thompson- 6’1 175Ibs/OLB/ Cibolo Steele High School
Analysis: Even though Keyandre Thompson is undersized as a linebacker, he has the talent to compete with some of the best linebackers around the area. You can use him on special teams as well because he will make plays in that phase of the game. He does a good job at setting the edge and making tackles as well. Then he possesses good speed and athleticism. With some more weight room training, he can have more of an impact, but he still plays with a chip on his shoulders! Look out for this young man in the future!
