There are primary blockers, go to receivers, and a couple ho can do it all for their tam, and a team at the next level. This article even led me to finding a couple of athletes I didn’t know about coming in. The north is a talented region when it comes to the tight end position. All six athletes are need to know names now, and in the future.
1. Noah Gehin Noah Gehin 6'3" | 230 lbs | TE De Pere | 2023 State WI , ’23- De Pere
The 6’4″ 220 lbs TE is going to be the most well rounded TE prospect in northern WI, and one of the best in the entire state. Last season he was primarily used inline as a blocker. Noah consistently opened up running lanes for his RBs. He took proper angles, sustained his blocks through the whistle, was able to pull and lead out in space, and he finished his blocks to the ground as often as he could. While not being the go to option, Gehin was a reliable option in the passing game also. He finished with 12 receptions, 183 yards, and 2 TDs. Noah gives his QB a mismatch as he is too athletic for LBs, and too big and physical after the catch and at the catch point for DBs. Look for him to take a step forward in his passing game impact this fall.
2. Trevor Eliason Trevor Eliason 6'6" | 220 lbs | TE Northwestern | 2023 State WI , ’23- Northwestern
The best frame among tight ends in northern WI belongs to the 6’6″ 220 lbs Northwestern playmaker. The big man has experience lining up inline as a traditional TE as well as out wide. Whether inside or out, Trevor eats up cushions with long strides, positions himself so he has the angle to win at the catch point, and does a great job of high pointing the ball when he gets the chance. Similar to eating up cushion, as a run blocker Trevor is able to get to the second level quickly and land blocks that wall of LBs from the play. Eliason is raw, but there is so much to like. Big frame, alignment versatility, and ability to be a receiving and blocking threat. He finished 2021 with 5 receptions, 116 yards, and 1 TD.
3. Davin Stoffel, ’23- Mosinee
This is an exciting new prospect for me. The 6’6″ 205 lbs two way producer is so intriguing on both sides of the ball. We will focus on his offensive work today. The long, lean athlete does his work out wide in Mosinee’s spread it out offense. The production is no question as Davin piled up 46 receptions, 674 yards, and 10 TDs. His ability to locate and track the ball in the air instantly jumps off the tape. Davin’s catch radius is also massive as he is able to make catches at the end of his reach with his soft hands. The big man is also a good route runner who is able to get into and out of his breaks with surprising fluidity that leads to separation. Stoffel doesn’t have much work as a blocker, but his receiving threat is so strong he had to stay in the Top 3. Good chance he climbs from there too.
4. Paul Kersten, ’23- West De Pere
The 6’4″ 230 lbs TE is a traditional style TE who has enough athleticism to be able to be a target, but he is relied on most heavily as a blocker. The big man is able to generate a big push on edge defenders as he helps break contain for his talented teammates in the backfield. As a receiver, Paul is a possession option who is a mismatch due to his size. He will be a primary blocking option at the next level while also being a short yardage option. He finished 2021 with 7 receptions for 87 yards.
5. Bryce Jaworksi, ’24- Wausau West
Wausau West wants to do one thing. Run the ball. This led to the 6’3″ 230 lbs athletic TE only posting 2 receptions for 14 yards this past fall, but that doesn’t nearly tell the hole story. Bryce doesn’t have blazing speed ,but he is a smooth athlete who is able tow in with his body control and route running. What the tape really shines on is his run blocking. He has the range to pull across the line to kick out DE/OLBs. Bryce does a good job of positioning himself and getting the right angle on the defender he is blocking to ensure they an;t get through him to the ball carrier. Excited to see how he has developed this offseason. Breakout year could be in store.
