Like we’ve been writing about for a few weeks now, it’s “Commit Watch” all over the state of Georgia now that prospects have been able to get on college campuses and narrow down their recruitment. With spots limited more than ever for high school prospects due to the college transfer portal, we’re seeing more prospects make commitments early in the process.
Here are some impressive 2023 prospects who made their college commitments recently…
One of the top overall defenders in the state, the athletic 6-foot-4 240-pound EDGE defender shut down his recruitment over the weekend and made his commitment to the University of Georgia. The in-state Bulldogs have made the South Georgia star a top priortiy for over a year now, and they were able to land his commitment on Easter. An impressive pass-rusher who dominated at the Atlanta Under Armour Camp in February, Harris is lighting quick off the edge and has a knack for finding the quarterback. He’s too quick inside for bigger tackles and is strong enough to push opposing linemen back into the pocket. He plays with leverage, he’s quick off the ball, and he’s great in pursuit. He’s one of the top overall pass rushers in the South for the 2023 class, and he’s staying in the peach state at the next level.
One of the most underrated defenders across the state, Walton is a big-time playmaker off the edge at 6-foot-4 230-pounds who was tough to stop all season for opposing defenses, his recruitment finally started to take off this spring and he earned a handful of D1 offers. In the end, Walton decided to make his commitment this past weekend to Wake Forest. Walton will provide a big-play presence on the Edge for the Demon Deacons as he was a QBs worst nightmare last season as a junior, totaling 48 tackles, 8 sacks, 17 TFLs, 3 Forced fumbles, 4 recovered, and 5 PBUs for the North Gwinnett Bulldogs. He went up against some of the best competition in Georgia and showed quickness off the ball, strong hands, and great pursuit of the QB. He’s long, athletic, and his best football is still way ahead of him. Look for him to be one of Gwinnett County’s top EDGE defenders in the fall.
Devin McRae – Offensive Line – Telfair County
One of the top small-town offensive linemen in the state, McRae decided to end his recruitment and make a verbal pledge to Wake Forest recently. The big 6-foot-3 265-pounder isn’t a giant, but he’s big and strong enough to bully and dominate his opponent on a consistent basis. He shows impressive athleticism for his size and has the ability to play on both sides of the line as a senior. He’s quick, plays with a strong base, and has his best football ahead of him. He’s easy to notice at the level he’s playing at, but he’ll have to continue developing and putting on more mass to make an early impact in the ACC. He had a quiet recruitment, but he’s still one of the top offensive line prospects in South Georgia.
