Consider this a sneak peak of new additions.
From invitations to college campus to all-star events and combines and participation in other sports, these six rising seniors have made the most of the winter and spring grind. Don’t sleep on them.
DEFENSE
Joey Rosa, Wando
The middle linebacker had a big junior season, piling up more than 70 tackles and nine tackles for loss. It spurred Junior Day invites from all over the southeast. Rosa, at 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds, may end up as one of the state’s most productive linebackers this fall.
Colton Phares, Beaufort
The 6-foot-1, 180-pound safety doesn’t jump off the roster, necessarily. But you can’t miss his competitive spirit. Phares (pictured) is the definition of a true motor athlete in football, wrestling and soccer and is one of the best players on a stacked Beaufort defense.
Damien Jackson, Northwestern
The Trojans’ offense typically gets most of the attention, but Jackson’s abilities at both inside and outside linebacker give us a pretty good reason to believe this squad is more well-rounded than usual. He has the potential to stand out in the crowded Rock Hill area of the state.
OFFENSE
Aliam Appler Aliam Appler 6'4" | 205 lbs | QB Dutch Fork | 2023 State SC , Dutch Fork
The 6-foot-4 quarterback is hoping to be the next in a decent line of Dutch Fork starters that put together huge senior seasons. It happened for Davin Patterson, Will Taylor and Tyler Olenchuk before him. Appler may have the best physical tools of the bunch.
Khamis Wilson, Kingstree
The newly formed Kingstree High School could be an instant hotbed of talent, with the merger of former Kingstree and CE Murray promoting more competition while highlighting the top spots. Wilson, a 6-foot-3, 190-pound receiver is on that shortlist
Colson Brown, North Augusta
Another big quarterback, the 6-foot-3, 195-pound Brown is going to be the centerpiece of first-year coach Matt Quinn’s offense. The Yellow Jackets have been regular region contenders and if they are going to return to the top after finishing in second last fall, Brown would be a big reason why.
