The 2023 class is full of prospects that deserve a closer look and should be watched this upcoming season. These guys protect and compliment the big arms that are blooming out in West Texas.
Joshua Cobb | 6’2 250 | RT | Midland Christian
There aren’t too many plays where the defender Joshua is assigned to, is left standing. His agility at his size, really stands out and he utilizes it well. His skill level of being able to run block or pass protect are very equal and balance out well. Joshua has a quick get off, able to get to the next level and seal off a linebacker efficiently. What stands out to me is his execution of the punch move and the arm extension on a block. During his Junior year he put together an impressive stat line, with 51 pancake blocks and 7 knockdowns, allowing only 1 sack all season. Joshua has earned 1st Team All-State and 1st Team All-District (2x) honors in TAPPS 6A Division I.
Girevis Bobey-Munoz | 6’2 270 | OT | Midland Legacy
Girevis has impressive speed and agility when the play calls for him to kick out and get down field on a quick screen. Also uses leverage cleanly to his advantage taking defenders out of the play. His technique and footwork are pretty on point. During pass protection, he shows good awareness as to where the quarterback is, also does very well at keeping his head up. What stands out to me, is he exhibits a consistent level of aggression and effort every play, not a player that takes any plays off.
Jose Guerrero | 6’2 220 | OT | Odessa High
Jose is very strong when it come to pass blocking. Shows good patience during the play and stays on his toes. Seems very comfortable as he plays loose and flexible. Utilizes the leverage technique just about as close to textbook as you can get. A really clean player, who displays good character on each play and is reliable at the tackle position. I see Jose as a tackle that could be beneficial on either the left or right side of the line, especially with his level of athleticism. He also earned 2nd Team All-District Honors in UIL 6A Division I.
Walker Norvell | 6’4 315 | G | Amarillo Tascosa
Walker exhibits a health balance of skill and technique in the run game and pass protect. He is patient with excellent feet, also maintains arm extension during pass protection pretty well. Moves really well and gets down field and to the next level on run plays. Maintains blocks through the whistle. Walker has also spent some time playing center where he also excels. All around good player on the interior of the offensive line.
Drew Coker | 6’1 265 | C | Monahans
It is apparent that Drew is a well disciplined linemen, pre snap as the anticipation and knowing his assignment are noticeable. He also gets set quickly and efficiently. With Monahans a seemingly run heavy offense, Drew shines as the anchor man. He possesses the athleticism and mobility to get down field and make those lead blocks. A quick get off and high level of tenacity allows Drew to latch on to a defender quickly with good arm extension and drive technique. Drew has also earned District 2-4A Honorable Mention among linemen, well deserved.
Andres Barraza | 6’4 340 | G | Lubbock Monterey
Andres stands on a well built frame, he is agile and with good reflexes to compliment. I really like the way Andres runs his feet and finishes blocks. Has good hand placement on blocks and keeps his head up, and in the play. His technique is top tier and his stance when getting set is a site, good feet. These attributes allow him to be a good scheme fit on many offenses in the future.
