Today we will analyze the big boys in the trenches! These are the football players who do the dirty work during the whole game. They are the ones who, play by play, push and bully opponents around to help their team win at any cost. They do this by sacrificing their knees, legs, and ligaments to a terrible injury in hopes of just helping their team either gain yards, or prevent the other team from scoring. Even though offensive linemen do not get the love they deserve, they are the main reason why offenses are able to score touchdowns, or stop the opposing team’s offense! Let’s dive in and take a look at some of the best linemen around the city of San Antonio!
Mason Timmermann- 6’4 260Ibs/OL/ New Braunfels Canyon High School
Analysis: Mason Timmermann suffered an injury last season which cut his season short, but he is still one of the best lineman in the city! He proved in his sophomore year that he is a force to be reckoned with. He is not friendly with defensive linemen in the trenches. Timmermann has very good strength which allows him to pancake opponents left and right. Next, he does a great job at maintaining good technique staying low and driving his opponents ten to fifteen yards back. This young man consistently holds on to his blocks until the whistle blows and even makes hustle plays to help his teammates to gain extra yards. With a full healthy season, Mason Timmermann will turn the heads of college coaches and scouts in the future!
Tyler Stone- 6’3 245Ibs/OL/ Smithson Valley High School
Analysis: Tyler Stone is an underrated offensive lineman, but he is not one that is to be taken lightly at all! He possesses great explosion and speed for a man his size, and he is a tremendous blocker down field. He does an excellent job at pancaking defensive linemen, and plays hard and physical on every down. Also, he has very good feet for a young man his size, and is very lethal in the run game! Look for this young stud going forward, he is on pace to having a good career!
Eddie Soefje- 6’1 275Ibs/OL/ Clark High School
Analysis: Eddie Soefje is an offensive lineman that has the talent and potential to play at the next level! He was 1st Team All- District with a squat of 610 plus pounds, and has a bench of 405Ibs, with a 4.9 40 yard dash, and 4.5 shuttle. This young man is a beast. He has excellent strength, technique, and plays extremely physical! Soefje is a diesel truck in the open field and destroys anyone who is in the way! With his brute strength, he pushes back defensive linemen as if they are feather weights! Finally, he has very good explosion off of the snap which is vital when it comes to running the ball. I will not be surprised if this prospect starts rolling in tons of offers.
Barrett Eddlemon- 6’4 280Ibs/OL/ La Vernia High School
Analysis: Barrett Eddlemon is a four star recruit out of La Vernia High School and was a 2 time 14-4a lineman of the year, an 1st Team All- Area member, and a team captain. This young man is rough and aggressive in the trenches like none other. He makes sure that their is a hole for his running back to run through, and makes sure his quarterback is protected by any means necessary. He does a tremendous job at using his hands and driving his legs, while getting nasty with defensive linemen to pummel them into the ground! He displays very good strength and footwork which is key at the offensive lineman position. Look for this Barrett Eddlemon to have a great season in the fall of 2022!
Evan Weston- 6’3 245Ibs/OL/ John Jay High School
Analysis: Evan Weston has proven himself to be one of the best in the city. He is known by his teammates as” Big West “. He displays great footwork, run blocking ability, pass blocking ability and physicality needed at the tackle position. Even though he is not high on scouts radar, he is an offensive lineman that can easily become a major prospect at his position. He does a good job of getting tot he second level as well, and makes sure to find some one to block every play which is what you would want in an offensive lineman, he has a bright future ahead of him!
