2023 Cleveland quarterback <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="139521" first="Evan" last="Wysong"]</strong>, who is verbally committed to New Mexico, demonstrated Saturday that’s he’s quite serious about taking home our King of Speed honors as the fastest high school football player in the Land of Enchantment.
Saturday, Wysong captured the 100-200 double at the Albuquerque Metro Track Championships at Nusenda Community Stadium. He blazed 100 meters in a personal record 10.77 seconds, finishing 6/100ths of a second ahead of 2022 Cibola standout <strong>Jonah Vaquera</strong> (10.83), who played football for the Cougars last fall.
Wysong also won the 200 meters title with a time of 22.07 seconds.He finished 36/100ths of a second ahead of 2022 Rio Rancho RB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="198295" first="Devin" last="Rice"]</strong> (22.43).
2022 Hope Christian dual threat QB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="26270" first="James" last="Jenkins"]</strong> was second in the 400 meters with a time of 51.54 seconds.
The Class 4A/5A state track & field championships are scheduled for May 13-14 at the UNM Track & Field Complex in Albuquerque. The Class A-3A championships will be held May 6-7 at the same location.
