The Palmetto Combine Series will hold the second of its three-part evaluation window at York on May 1.
The event will help determine spots selections for the Touchstone Energy Cooperatives Bowl and the Joanne Langfitt Junior Showcase. (It is still not known if the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas will draw from this combine.)
The list of invitees includes a quarterback- and receiver-heavy contingent. But whether its amid those two offensive spots or elsewhere on the field, here are five seniors who could use the combine to propel themselves right into the 2022 season.

The Lions’ second-leading receiver is a bit of a freak athletically who at 6-foot-2 and 185 pounds has the physical tools to take over a game. He’s seldom asked to by his lonesome, as classmate [player_tooltip player_id="91140" first="Eli" last="Merck"] takes on a huge bit of that challenge. But in Brown-Wallace, an event like this combine could turn into his playground.
[player_tooltip player_id="89349" first="Ja’Corey" last="Martin"], QB, Southside Christian
Martin has led led Southside Christian to back-to-back Class 1A titles. And he’s put up some amazing stats along the way. Last year, as a junior, he threw for 2,457 yards and 22 touchdowns while running for another 926 and 22. That’s a boatload of production. And, yet, his skill set is still downplayed somewhat due to his school’s class size. The 6-foot-1, 170-pound quarterback will have a chance to win over a few more folks.
CJ Proctor, DL, Byrnes
During the season, the 6-foot-1, 240-pound Proctor lines up everywhere from over the top of the center to three feet wide of the offensive tackle. You can’t do that unless you have some ability to adjust on the fly. That same trait could prove valuable in the combine, when Proctor’s power and quick burst is adaptable to the specific events he’ll be asked to perform.
Hunter Puckett, RB, Westside
At some point during the combine, the group of tailbacks standing around Puckett are going to ask him if he’s in the right group. That’s because at 6-foot-3 and 240 pounds (give or take), the big Westside back is a big bigger than his position mates. Maybe he’ll switch when he gets to college, but for now, he’s a guy who’s put up 1,591 yards and 26 touchdowns in 19 varsity games. He’ll grab folks’ attention here, too.
[player_tooltip player_id="202756" first="Brody" last="Tesimale"], LB, Catawba Ridge
Tesimale (pictured) missed a large chunk of 2021 to an injury, but before he did, he put up 10 tackles per game and six tackles for loss. He’s powerful enough to put up those types of numbers, and he’s part of a select group who could potentially lead Class 4A in tackles next year. And since he missed out on most of last year, he’ll be ramped up and ready for the combine.
