Also, it is a big opportunity for underclassmen to step up to the challenge of establishing themselves as the new leaders on the team and names to be known within the county, state and/ or national level. Spring football in Georgia also draws plenty of interest from college coaches from around the country. Here are some RBs in Gwinnett County that should have a big spring.
Jacob Davis | 5’9” 195 lbs | Discovery High School | Class of 2023
Davis is an extremely tough runner who doesn’t go down after first contact and runs behind his pads. He was named All State Honorable Mention, 2nd Team All County, and 1st Team All Region. He led Region 7-7A in rushing with 1,171 yards on 190 attempts, averaging 6.2 yards per carry, and scored 9 touchdowns. His recruiting should start to pick up later this year, but he is already receiving interest from Tennessee State and Middle Tennessee State University.
Bryan Williams | 6′ 215 lbs | Lanier High School | Class of 2023
Williams was the leading rusher in Region 8-6A last season. He ran for 1,037 yards on 175 carries, averaged 5.9 yards a rush, and scored 9 touchdowns. The Lanier junior has great top end speed, vision, and fights for every yard. He represented Georgia well this past January in the Georgia vs Florida Underclassmen Game, and was one of the game’s top performers. Williams 3.3 GPA and athletic ability should garner the attention of many college coaches this spring recruiting season.
Joseph Taylor II | 5’10” 200 lbs | Grayson High School | Class of 2023
Taylor is the next in line for Grayson who has historically had great backs. He has much of what you look for in a back that can play at the next level. He shows great speed, elusiveness, good hands, and runs the ball with authority. He earned 2nd Team All County and 1st Team All Region honors. The Rams’ junior RB led their region in rushing with 1,021 yards, averaging 5.1 yards a carry, 12 touchdowns, and was one of the top workhorses in the county with 200 carries. Taylor has an offer from Eastern Kentucky, and is also receiving interest from Jackson St, Wofford, Dartmouth, and Charlotte.
Kyhair Spain | 5’8” 190 lbs | Parkview High School | Class of 2024
Spain, a First Team All Region Running Back, also was an excellent Linebacker this past season and even earned Gwinnett County Defensive Player of the Week. Spain’s athleticism is also displayed on the track, as he recently ran a personal best of 11.2 in the 100 meters dash this spring. He ran for 731 rushing yards averaging 8.6 yards a touch, and scored 11 rushing touchdowns. He is currently receiving interest from Georgia Southern and Georgia State.
