We bring back our popular city rankings that catches a lot of eyes of not just Prep Redzone subscribers, college coaches, but my favorite part? The community conversations. Once a upon a time when we were our original one-state state, Northstar Football News we brought this article series to Mankato, and long story short, it made noise across the city, and created a friendly rivalry via Twitter.
So without further a do, take a look at the five 2023 running backs from Bismarck, North Dakota that jumped onto our city rankings from 5 all the way to 1 and the reasons why we placed each prospect in that spot! Let’s go!
5) Paul Vetter | Bismarck St. Mary’s (ND) | 2023 | Tape
Paul comes into our Bismarck Area city rankings at the #5 spot for running backs. There is no denying this kid is a straight gunner, and with more running back reps in 2022 on tape, we will see his full potential unleashed in his senior season. Paul has good durability in running thru contact from the light reps we could see. There is not enough tape yet to fully grasp his agility with his footwork, but one thing I do know from watching this kid is he will give you it all on every play on all three levels of the field from special teams, to throwing a heavy block with a great pad level and will sure knock a defender on their rear end. There is a lot of upside for Paul to move up a spot or two in 2022.
4) Hudson Schroeder | Bismarck (ND) | 2023 | Tape & Twitter
Hudson came in relief for still uncommitted #2 running back in 2022, Isaiah Huus Isaiah Huus 6'0" | 205 lbs | RB Bismarck | 2022 State in 2021 after a season ending injury for Isaiah before midseason. What can this young man do? Hudson shows good explosion on the inside gap and shows great patience to wait for the play to develop from his offensive line. As far as development, Hudson I believe can show better durability on his runs with improving his lower body, as he showed at times he could get wrapped up with not great contact coming from the back half of the defense. He shows good agility with his footwork, but has some growth coming in that region from my eyes. Those last two developments alone, could make Hudson rise a spot or two in 2022, but with full reps as RB1 should make some noise for the Demons with 2025 6’6 300 pound OL prospect Jack Shaffer up front. I believe this young man has the tools to play on Saturdays.
3) Lincon Wiseman | Mandan (ND) | 2023 | Tape & Twitter
Lincon and his agility showed just enough more zest to be ranked the #3 running back in the Bismarck Area. I also thought Lincon showed better speed on the first level of the field as he advanced the football thru the inside would-be tacklers with great efficiency in intermediate yardage situations especially. The biggest development I see from Lincon and likely why I placed him in the #3 spot, was his distance speed, as the farther he advanced up the field the more defenders would find him slowing down. If he can work this offseason on improving his distance speed and finishing his runs, he will add more skillsets to his game for the Mandan Braves in 2021. I certainly think Lincon has a good shot at playing on Saturdays from my eyes.
#2 and #1
By far, the hardest matchup in this Bismarck Area city rankings for the tailback position was between Bismarck’s biggest rival schools, Bismarck Legacy’s Carl Henry Carl Henry 5'11" | 190 lbs | RB Bismarck Legacy | 2023 State and Bismarck Century’s Peyton Arndt Peyton Arndt RB Bismarck Century | 2023 State , who both in case you didn’t know are ranked neck and neck in our Dakotas 2023 rankings for running backs, and are only two position spots apart overall at #39 (Henry) and #41 (Arndt). Who won this bout? Check it out.
2) Peyton Arndt Peyton Arndt RB Bismarck Century | 2023 State | Bismarck Century | 2023 | Tape & Twitter
If you want an agile running back in your RB room, please go take a look at Peyton Arndt Peyton Arndt RB Bismarck Century | 2023 State ’s tape ASAP. This young man has some of the best shake in his hips from side to side in the Dakotas that I have watched on tape from this 2023 class. Peyton runs very well thru contact despite his size (5’11 180) and has a bull mentality to run it down the defenses throat on both the inside and outside gaps. He is also a heck of a pass catcher, and that multi-level skillset will certainly impress plenty of college coaches this summer from across the Dakotas at the D2 and D1 levels. The biggest question, I had when watching both running back prospects, is how much speed is Peyton going to get back after his midseason injury last year? More than likely, a heck of a lot of it but it is also an unknown. I know I will see Peyton at a handful of prospect camps this summer, so I will be able to get a firm answer by the end of the summer or before, but regardless there is not a doubt in my mind a D1 or D2 Dakotas program is going to be fighting for this kid for sure recruiting wise.
1) Carl Henry Carl Henry 5'11" | 190 lbs | RB Bismarck Legacy | 2023 State | Bismarck Legacy (ND) | 2023 | Tape & Twitter
It is time for what all you Bismarck subscribers have been waiting for, who is the #1 overall running back in Bismarck, North Dakota? Looking at the tape right now, that belongs to Bismarck Legacy’s Carl Henry Carl Henry 5'11" | 190 lbs | RB Bismarck Legacy | 2023 State . Carl has the extra length and makes some massive strides from the start to finish of his runs to solidify his position as RB1 in Bismarck. Those strides with his burst ability allow him to usually complete the distance runs with plenty of defenders left way behind him cause they just can’t catch this kid. I have seen a lot of running backs like Carl that are blazing fast at 150-160 pounds throughout the Dakotas, but the fact that he is a durable 190+ pounds with that speed seals the deal for me to place him in that #1 spot. He also shows great activity in his agility as although it won’t come up much on tape, I can certainly see his hip movement is extremely quick when he needs it. Carl also shows great balance around the sidelines with his balance to fight for every possible yard. Adding this kid as a pass-catcher in 2022 would be a excellent option for the Sabres, as I would love to see how developed his hands are especially on short routes to see what that speed can do. Division I programs should be all over this kid this summer.
