The OL is the least glamorized position in, arguably, all of the sports. The big athletes up front paved the way for the more valuable and glamourized positions to put in work. So here’s to showing some love to the big boys upfront. Here are the 2023 OL superlatives.
Best Zone Run Blocker: [player_tooltip player_id="146671" first="Chase" last="Bisontis"], Don Bosco
PrepRedzone’s second-ranked overall player, Bisontis is undoubtedly the best offensive lineman in this class. Where he specifically excels and sets himself apart is his blocking at the point of attacks on zone runs. He has great lateral quickness and agility taking his initial step zone-read step and firing off the ball low with force displacing most of the defensive lineman he lines up against. After solidifying the initial point of attack he can climb the second level and destroy linebackers and defensive backs. He has beautiful technique and can execute any run scheme. Here is an example of him executing a reach block sealing the end to help create a touchdown:

If the run play is going to his side you can almost ensure there will be space for the running back to utilize. He is a big physical right tackle who can get off the ball and block with intense power. He’s great at using his hands and is strong in one on one situations. If he’s blocking for you, play side, expect a lot of yardage and space to be gained.
Best Levarage: [player_tooltip player_id="146674" first="Chris" last="Moreno"], Don Bosco
[player_tooltip player_id="146674" first="Chris" last="Moreno"] is a very underrated lineman in this class. He is very consistent and has no major weakness in his game. What stands out is his ability to play with consistent leverage in many facets. From blocking on the move to being an effective anchor on bull rushes his pad level and leverage are the most consistent of any lineman in this class. [player_tooltip player_id="146674" first="Chris" last="Moreno"] earns this superlative because he’s the model of consistency at the position.

Best Pass Protector: [player_tooltip player_id="321763" first="Anthony" last="Aviles"], Depaul Catholic
At 6’4 275 [player_tooltip player_id="321763" first="Anthony" last="Aviles"] is a mountain of a young man. He is a solid pass protector and has some god-given gifts that help him win in one on one situations. First off he has great technique and fundamentals. He is very good at using his hands and on tape, you notice his freakishly long arms. He uses his length to keep defenders out of his chest and also to lockout and gain great extension and separation between him and defensive ends. He doesn’t have the best footspeed but if he gets his hands on you the rep is just about over.
