In this series, we’re going to be diving into player breakdowns varying across positions and with players that you should have on your radar heading into the fall season. Josh Steines Josh Steines 6'1" | 190 lbs | RB Geneseo | 2024 IL Twitter
Mr. Steines took his snaps on Varsity this last spring season as a running back providing glimpses of having the vision to find running lanes quickly between the tackles and get through them. In the first clip in his highlights, he’s able to get through the line of scrimmage and works through traffic as he follows his blocks. Here, he’s able to gain a step on the second-level defenders breaking a long run. Once he secures the handoff he gets N/S quickly as he reads blocks in open space and uses his foot quicks to outrun pursuit angles at times. There’s one specific clip in his highlights where he stays N/S and is able to break a weak arm tackle as he’s met in the hole by keeping his feet driving. This young man is able to come away with a first down as a result and provides insight into being able to fight for extra yards as he plays through contact. If the front side running lane gets clogged up, this young man showcases a glimpse of being able to hit the cutback lane. That’s exactly what he does in this specific clip where he plants his foot to hit the cutback lane and uses his foot quicks to get upfield. Once he’s met from a defender he keeps his feet driving gaining a few extra yards on the play before falling forward – coming away with a twenty-five yard gain. This young man is also used in pass protection. In one clip, he’s able to reach block the defensive end on a rollout pass giving his quarterback more time to get the ball off by slowing down the pass rush. In another clip, he’s able to pick up the defensive end by anchoring where he absorbs the initial contact to tie up the rushing defender. Currently holds no offers. Highlights
Waleed Johnson Waleed Johnson 5'10" | 160 lbs | RB Plano | 2024 State IL Twitter
Mr. Johnson took his snaps on Varsity this last fall season as a running back that provides insight into his ability to read blocks both on inside and outside zone which he uses to break long runs. He also has some explosiveness to him as well. In the first clip in his highlights, he’s returning a punt and uses his foot quicks to get vertical quickly once he secures the kick. As he does so, a defender ends up grabbing a hold of his jersey to bring him down but this young man keeps his feet driving to run through the grab tackle. Upon doing so, he continues using his foot quicks to outrun the pursuit angles into the endzone for a touchdown. When he runs inside the tackles, he provides a glimpse into his long speed. In the second clip in his highlights, he gets through the line of scrimmage and uses his foot quicks to gain a step advantage on the second level as he breaks a long run for a touchdown. In another clip, he takes the handoff and uses a quick cut to hit the backside running lane getting along the sideline and into the endzone for a touchdown. If you try to load the box inside, this young man can use his lateral quickness to turn the corner as well. There’s one clip in his highlights where he’s lined up in the slot running a jet sweet and is able to turn the corner using his lateral quickness to do so. Once he does, he’s able to run through a grab tackle before using his foot quicks to win the foot race against the pursuing defenders for the touchdown. This young man can also be utilized in the air attack as well. Here, he’s lined up in the slot and can run seam routes to either come away with a touchdown or look the ball in as a defender is on his hip pocket. Currently holds no offers. Highlights

Mr. Gist took his snaps on Varsity this last spring season as a quarterback that showcases glimpses of being able to get the ball out quickly when running RPOs as well as driving off his back foot when he’s set up in the pocket. In the first clip in his highlights, we get a glimpse into his arm strength. Here, he’s able to add a touch on a level three throw outside the numbers leading his receiver to the sideline in the soft spot in the cover three zone coverage. This young man fits the ball between the linebacker underneath and the safety playing over the top coming from a single high look. He also provides glimpses of adding easy velocity on underneath routes. There’s a clip in his highlights where he fakes a toss to his left before rolling out to his right and is able to survey the field before adding zip on the ball to make the throw on the move to keep the chains moving. Throughout his highlights, he provides glimpses of being able to put the ball into catchable spots for his receivers both when working in platform and when working on the move. A trait to keep an eye on is his field vision and ability to read a defense as he showcases a glimpse of this in his highlights. In this clip, he’s going through his progressions through the front side routes before working back to the backside out route – which he hits quickly for a touchdown. His mobility isn’t showcased much in his highlights but there is one clip where he’s running an RPO in the redzone and pulls the ball down to scramble. He keeps his feet driving before he gets brought down at the one-yard line. Currently holds no offers. Highlights
Jackson Ramos Jackson Ramos 6'1" | 295 lbs | OL Riverside-Brookfield | 2024 IL Twitter
Mr. Ramos took his snaps on Varsity this last fall season as an offensive lineman that provides an insight into being able to move the defender when drive blocking to create a running lane for his ball carrier. He also showcases glimpses of being able to sustain his block after initial contact and drive his defender downfield through the whistle. In the first clip in his highlights, he gets quick out of his stance down blocking the defensive lineman and keeps his feet driving to wash the defender down the line of scrimmage creating a running lane for his ball carrier. This is seen throughout his highlights and at times the ball carrier ends up breaking a long run off this block. When he’s blocking in line, he showcases glimpses of being quick out of his stance using a quick punch to get hands inside. In one clip, he’s able to drive block the defender five yards downfield while in other clips he sustains the block enough for his ball carrier to get through the line of scrimmage. He also provides glimpses of getting to second-level blocks. In one clip, he chips the defensive tackle before working up to the second-level defender and is able to absorb initial contact on the defender before he rolls his hips to turn the defender. This opens up the running lane for his ball carrier resulting in a first down on the play. This young man also showcases glimpses of being able to latch on and drive the defender into the ground in pass protection. In one clip, he does just that by down blocking a defender into the dirt as his quarterback is on a rollout. Currently holds no offers. Highlights
Chris Abihudi Chris Abihudi 6'1" | 280 lbs | OL Hampshire | 2024 IL Twitter
Mr. Abihudi took his snaps on Varsity this last fall season as an offensive lineman that provides insight into firing off the ball and being aggressive at the point of attack. This is seen throughout his film where he then is able to wash the defender down at the line of scrimmage and pancake the defender creating a running lane for his ball carrier. He also provides glimpses of being able to jolt the defender upright with his initial punch on drive blocks. In the first clip in his highlights, he drives the defender down the line of scrimmage washing the defender down and results in him pancaking the defender. In the second clip in his highlights, he’s quick out of his stance using a quick punch to get hands inside before he keeps his feet driving to wash the defender down. He also provides an insight into being able to get to second-level blocks. This young man does so by having a free release and is able to use his momentum when delivering an initial punch to either jolt the defender upright or throw the defender into the ground. In terms of pass protection, he showcases a glimpse of patiently awaiting the rushing defender to get within arm’s length before latching on. In one clip in his highlights, he does just that before he anchors and absorbs the bull rush. Upon doing so, he’s able to tie up the rushing defender to keep the pocket clean for his quarterback. In another clip, he’s able to slide out to the corner and is able to pick up not one but two defenders coming into his gap. He does so by latching on to each rushing defender with one arm stalling their pass rush providing a glimpse into his strength. Currently holds no offers. Highlights
Carter Chavez-Jimenez Carter Chavez-Jimenez 5'8" | 180 lbs | LB Downers Grove North | 2024 IL Twitter
Mr. Chavez-Jimenez took his snaps on JV this last fall season working out of the 3-4 defense as an inside linebacker. When going up against the inside run, he provides a glimpse of being able to take the block head-on by jolting the offensive lineman before disengaging to meet the ball carrier at the line of scrimmage delivering a heavy hit upon contact. In the first clip in his highlights, he triggers downhill quickly in close space meeting the ball carrier at the line of scrimmage resulting in no gain on the play. In another clip, he’s in the redzone and is walked up in the A gap. This young man is able to shoot the gap to get through and penetrates the backfield to meet the ball carrier at the line of scrimmage saving a touchdown. A trait to keep an eye on is his range and pursuit on outside the tackle runs. In the second clip in his highlights, the run is going away from him and this young man is able to work through not one but two blocks as he flows to the ball. He’s then able to make contact on the ball carrier along the sideline and in the process of securing the tackle he strips the ball forcing a fumble on the play. Again, this analysis is taken off his JV highlights and we have yet to see how his skill set is going to transition to the Varsity level. That being said, keep an eye on how this young man continues to develop as the upcoming season gets closer and closer. Currently holds no offers. Highlights
