Stephon Sellers Stephon Sellers 5'9" | 170 lbs | WR Hoffman Estates | 2024 IL Twitter
Mr. Sellers took his snaps on Varsity this last fall season as a slot receiver where he showcases his foot quicks to close the cushion quickly on the defender playing in off coverage. This young man has countless plays in his highlights providing insight into his hands as well as his ability to adjust to make tough catches. In one clip, he’s able to stack the defender winning over the top on the seam route and goes up for the 50/50 ball attacking the ball at the highest point to secure the contested catch. Once he does, he keeps his feet driving with the defender on his back for five yards as he reaches across the goal line for the touchdown. In another clip, he’s in the redzone where he uses his foot quicks at the snap to get past the second-level defenders into the back of the endzone as he stems his route inside before breaking out on the out route flat down the back end line. Upon doing so, he’s able to play above the rim against two defenders to secure the contested catch for the touchdown. His route running and his separation ability are also one to keep an eye on as well as his understanding of spacing. In the second clip in his highlights, he works past the linebackers finding the soft spot between them and the defensive backs in the middle of the field. Here, he’s able to secure the catch and use his foot quicks to blow past the second-level defenders breaking a long run for the touchdown. In another clip in his highlights, this young man secures the catch along the sideline and uses his body control to stop on a dime making the safety playing over the top miss in open space. Once this happens, he gets vertical into the endzone for the touchdown. This young man provides insight into being able to find the soft spot in zone coverage where he’ll sit to become an outlet for his quarterback to keep the chains moving. Upon securing the catch, he has the ability to break a long run either for a big gain or for a touchdown regardless of whether it’s a shot underneath route or intermediate route or deep shot downfield. There are clips throughout his highlights where once he secures the catch he gets vertical quickly showcasing his foot quicks to blow by second-level defenders for touchdowns providing an insight into his long speed. This is seen in the first clip in his highlights where he’s able to gain inside release on the seam route through the middle of the field and once he secures the catch he uses his foot quicks to get vertical into the endzone for the touchdown. In another clip, he’s able to secure the slant in the middle of the field in stride and further showcases his foot quicks as he outruns the second-level defenders to get into the endzone for the touchdown. This also sheds light on his ability to win over the top with his foot quicks off the line of scrimmage to gain a step on the defender which is seen throughout his film and a trait to keep an eye on moving forward. This young man then uses his foot quicks to turn the corner and lowers his shoulder on the head-up tackler in open space along the sideline. Upon doing so, he delivers a good pop on the head-up defender running him over and putting him on his back as he falls to the ground. If he doesn’t lower his shoulder he does have the ability to slide. He showcases glimpses of surveying the field and being able to see green grass as he’s in the pocket. Once he does, he can pull the ball down to scramble before sliding down on the play to gain net positive yards on the play. Mr. Allen took his snaps on Varsity this last fall season as an outside receiver providing glimpses of having the foot quicks to win over the top on deep shots downfield. His ability to get open and separation ability are one to keep an eye on moving forward. In the first clip in his highlights, he uses his foot quicks off the ball to stack the defender when running a post route.
