PRZ Next Southeast Camp: 2027/2028 Defensive Back Preview
In this article:
Prep Redzone Next is holding the first of three, one-day showcases this upcoming Sunday, April 2nd, at Silverbacks Park in Atlanta, Ga. The camp is designed for middle school athletes to compete in combine testing, individual position work and competitive one on work. The camp sold out in just 12 days, and athletes from 11 different states are slated to come out and compete at the event.
Here’s a preview of the class of 2027 and 2028 athletes who are registered to play Defensive Back.
It’s a Georgia-heavy group of 2027 and 2028 defensive backs with only one prospect hailing from outside the Peach State. If there’s only going to be one kid, I’m excited to see it’s a special one in Tyler Walker Jr. As just a seventh-grader it’s extremely rare to see a prospect with this combination of speed and size. He’s already 5-foot-10 and 151 pounds but plays in the secondary. He’s going to be a scary good prospect I expect to turn heads instantly.
Headlining the 2027 Georgia defensive backs has to be Preston Glasco. The lockdown corner has all the ability in the world and plays with the type of quiet confidence you wish all DB’s had. He has long arms and seemingly changes up his style of play depending on situations. He can run with almost anyone but isn’t afraid to get physical and jam at the line if need be.
I’m excited to see Caleb Hudson come out to perform at the camp. Pound for pound, could be one of the three-sport athletes in the entire country (also plays baseball and basketball). At just 125 pounds, he is already squatting over 225 pounds and only getting stronger. He is a fast, mean and competitive corner that should challenge for tops in the class.
Like some of the 2026 athletes, Ethan Hauser is a talented corner who plays his 7v7 ball with one of the top organizations in the country, Hustle Inc. At 5-foot-8 and 128 pounds he has promising size, but what separates him a bit is his in-game intelligence at the position. He has an advanced knowledge of how to play the position at a young age.
Julian Camacho is in the Collins Hill pipeline–the same high school that produced the class of 2022’s number one player, Travis Hunter Travis Hunter 6'1" | 165 lbs | ATH Collins Hill | 2022 State GA . On film he is one of the more steady players I’ve seen in 7v7. He’s patient but reacts quickly. Rarely gets caught flat-flooded.
Another 2027 I’m excited to see if Sheddrick Diggs III out of Couch Middle School. The kid they call Trey looks to be a prospect on the rise who isn’t yet scratching the surface of his ability. He has some long limbs and a frame that looks like he can put on a ton of lean muscle. Will be good to see how he tests.
Kayden Battle rounds out the 2027 defensive back’s hailing from Georgia, that will be coming to the camp. In Battle you have a prospect that might be an even better running back, than he is defensive back. He’s a compact kid at 5-foot-3 and 110 pounds, but fits a lot of athletic ability into that build. If he gets his hands on a ball during the one-on-one’s, he will take it to the house.
Turning our attention to the 2028’s I really like the four we have coming through.
Kaiden Kent Kaiden Kent 5'7" | 130 lbs | DB Cartersville | 2028 GA is the son of a coach and an absolutely fearless competitor. Mark my words, he will pick off more than his fair share of passes at the camp. Kent’s regular season teammate at Cass Middle school, Kayden Blackwell, will also be camping. Not as advanced technique-wise at this point as Kent, Blackwell is absolutely no slouch at corner. Both kids play multiple sports and don’t know any other way but to compete hard. The duo will be a scary sight for quarterbacks for years to come.
Buford’s Jordan Blassingame is also stepping up to the challenge as a sixth grader. I love the way this kid plays football. Looking through his clips, he seemingly has a great vertical and really thinks every ball in the air is his is. At 5-foot-3 and 125 pounds, I’m excited to see how he tests out.
Rounding out the 2028’s is Cartersville’s Cooper Melvin. Melvin looks like he came out of the womb lifting weights. He’s a versatile kid that can play a number of different positions on the field. He’s young and has some growing to do, but coming to camp and working on pass coverage can only make Melvin an even better player. He will come and compete, without question.
