It still early with a lot yet to be determined before next season, but have a look at who projects as the Conference Player of the Year favorites in each league..
UP NEXT: Three Rivers League
<strong> OFFENSE </strong>
1.[player_tooltip player_id="152363" first="Nolen" last="Scott"] RB 24’ Sherwood- I expect Scott to be the best overall player in the conference this coming season. He will have a legit shot of being the POY on both sides of the football after an unreal sophomore campaign where he accounted for 1,519 total yards and 10 TDs, also earning 1st team accolades as a kick returner.
2.[player_tooltip player_id="110217" first="Hudson" last="Davis"] RB 23’ Newberg- The reigning Conference POY on defense can also play a little O. He earned 1st team honors on offense last season and will be one of the most decorated athletes ever to come out of Newberg HS when all is said and done.
3.[player_tooltip player_id="271402" first="Austin" last="Rapp"] RB 23’ McMinnville- The undersized scat back had a phenomenal junior season, earning 2nd team all-league honors. The Grizzlies have some dudes returning as you can expect Rapp to touch the ball 25 times a game, and put up some big numbers.
4.[player_tooltip player_id="278389" first="Tanner" last="Steinbach"] ATH 24’ Liberty- One of the more talented 24’s in the state who most people don’t know about yet. Steinbach earned all-conference honors on both sides of the football as a sophomore, and should pick up a substantial portion of the offensive productivity with the departure of conference POY [player_tooltip player_id="28875" first="Hiro" last="Diamond"].
5.[player_tooltip player_id="278398" first="Kasen" last="Covert"] QB 24’ Sherwood- Look for the young QB to have a big year next season, especially with the Bowmen now throwing the ball. He has excelled on the 7v7 circuit and will have a host of kids to throw to including 6-5 TE [player_tooltip player_id="168252" first="Oliver" last="Fisher"].
<strong>DEFENSE</strong>
1.[player_tooltip player_id="110217" first="Hudson" last="Davis"] LB 23’ Newberg- The returning Defensive POY deserves to be listed as the favorite heading into next season. That said as he will need some help from his supporting cast as the NHS program graduates some talented kids.
2.[player_tooltip player_id="152363" first="Nolen" last="Scott"] S 24’ Sherwood- Once again I think his overall athleticsm speaks for itself. As good as he is on offense he most likley projects as a division 1 safety, so getting his reps on D will be important. Hopefully he’s got his cardio in check, as he will rarely leave the field.
3.[player_tooltip player_id="168252" first="Oliver" last="Fisher"] DE 23’ Sherwood- One of the fastest rising recruits in the state. Look for the big man to be one of the top DE’s in Oregon and potentially catch 5 passes per game at tight end. Expect him to follow up his 1st team all league season from a year ago in a big way.
4.[player_tooltip player_id="152348" first="King" last="Luafutu"] LB 24’ Century- One of the fastest rising defensive recruits in the state for 2024. Luafutu racked up 2nd team all league honors as a Sophomore and played varsity ball as a freshman. Expect him to be a statistical leader within the conference.
5.[player_tooltip player_id="271362" first="Mason" last="Yochum"] LB 23’ McMinnville- Very few know about Yochum outside the conference. He had a breakout season one year ago, earning 1st team all league honors as part of a squad that did not thrive within the conference, making the recognition even more impressive.
6.[player_tooltip player_id="278373" first="Patrick" last="Wooley"] DT/NT 24’ Liberty- Most are now aware of Wooley he garnered 1st team all Pacific Conference accolades as a sophomore. The 6-5 350 pound Nose Tackle is a massive presence and moves well for a big man.
7.[player_tooltip player_id="278370" first="Mitch" last="Mahlum"] LB 24’ Liberty- Another kid who had a nice sophomore season. Look for Mahlum to be one of the state’s breakout players of the year, possessing great size and speed, while coming from a football family.
8.[player_tooltip player_id="206763" first="Ryan" last="Berger"] DL 23’ Liberty- One of the top O line recruits in the state is athletic and also an impressive defensive guy. He earned 2nd team all conference accoaldes on D last year and the Falcons have dudes everywhere, so he should thrive in 1 on 1 situations.
8tie.[player_tooltip player_id="272810" first="Ben" last="Thornbrue"] DE 23’ Glencoe- You always got to keep tabs on the 6-7 235 pound, multi sport athletes. If Thornbrue wanted to pursue football collegiately he could. The Crimson Tide will need him to step up big, espeically with the graduation of Fasel and Schlottmann.
