It’s state tournament week in basketball and our sister site Prep Hoops Oklahoma has you covered on all of the state tournament action from Classes 6A and 5A at OU to Classes 4A-2A at the Big House. In this post, we take a look at some of the star football players that will be making a big impact for their respective teams on the basketball floor this week. For some players, they make just as big of an impact on the court as they do on the gridiron. Others are simply role players that are still important to the team’s success. Nevertheless, here are just a few of the top football stars and how they look on the court.

Our first prospect (the list was alphabetical and just worked out this way) happens to be arguably the top football prospect in Oklahoma’s 2023 class. Community Christian standout

in the argument for who’s #1. And on the basketball floor, Jobe is still a top dog. He’s leading Community Christian in scoring with nearly 17 points per game. It’s not a shock to anybody who has seen Jobe in person. The kid is an athletic freak and it’d be disappointing if he wasn’t putting up numbers on the hardwood. But when it comes down to it, this prospect is one of the best football prospects in the country.

has been one of the best overall football players in the state over the last two seasons. At wide receiver and defensive back, Matteson has put up some monster numbers and was a big part of their success on the gridiron. On the basketball court, Matteson is a starter, but more of a role player, quite the contrast from what we’re used to seeing on the football field. OCS has an absolute star in sophomore Luke Gray, who averages 20 points per game. Matteson does his part, averaging 5 points per game and he’s still able to showcase his athletic ability. OCS is also the top ranked team coming into the 3A tourney this week.

. He was one of the best quarterbacks in the state over the last few seasons and put up some monster numbers. They just kept running into Cashion, otherwise he probably would have been more of a statewide name. And on the basketball court, Parker is an impact player as well. He’s their second leading scorer at 7.7 points per game but is playing with an absolute star in Zach Hidalgo, a 6’8 forward. Parker’s not small by any means so the combination of Parker and Hidalgo give Hooker quite the duo in the paint. Parker accepted a preferred walk on offer at Oklahoma State earlier this year.

Southeast is a darkhorse to win this week’s 5A state tourney. All eyes are on Del City and Memorial but watch out for a Southeast team that could steal the gold ball away from those perennial powers. And leading the way is 2024 prospect

. The Southeast guard leads the team averaging just over 16 points per game. On the gridiron, where the Spartans haven’t had near as much success, Fields is the team’s leading wide receivers. In our opinion, he’s one of the best at his position within the 2024 class and you can make the same argument that he’s one of the better guards in the state’s 2024 class.

. The 2022 standout was impossible to keep out of the end zone during the 2021 season and was a big reason why the Wildcats went back to back as Class A state champions. On the basketball court, LaGasse is Cashion’s fourth leading scorer at 9 points per game The Wildcats are led by a trio of guards, who all average in double figures. Then you have LaGasse, who is more of a forward on the basketball court because of his size. Cashion starting running back

Booker T Washington is one of the top teams in Class 6A and are one of the top contenders to bring home another gold ball. The Hornets have one of the best group of guards in the state, regardless of class and one of them is also QB1 on the football field.

, one of the better dual-threat quarterbacks in Oklahoma’s 2023 class is a starter on the Hornet basketball team. He’s the third leading scorer at 10 points per game but his role on this team is more of that as a quarterback. He’s excellent at getting others involved on the offensive side of the ball. And on defense he’s one of the best players on the floor at locking down an opponent.

is a big reason why the Moore Lions are headed to the state tournament for the first time in nearly 20 years. The last time the Lions went to state was 2005. Dockins was without a doubt the best playmaker on the football field for the Lions during the last two seasons and on the hardwood, he’s much of the same. He leads the Lions with 15.6 points per game. They have a star in the making with sophomore Chiante Tramble but right now, Dockins is the leader of this bunch. Dockins accepted a preferred walk on spot with OU earlier this year and in our opinion, the Sooners got an absolute steal with the versatile athlete.

is a starter on a Cardinal team three wins away from another state championship. Hammond is the third leading scorer at 8 points per game and there’s no doubt that he’s a football player playing basketball if you’ve watched him play. He has some skills but his main priority is patrolling the paint and grabbing rebounds and easy points at the basket. Hammond has been one of the top wide receivers in the state over the last few years and is signed to play college ball at UCO. He’s looking to make a little more history this week.

. These two have some history as Collinsville ended Carl Albert’s championship run in football in last year’s semifinal round. Like Hammond, James is the third leading scorer on the Carl Albert basketball team at 6.7 points per game. James is also having a big week when it comes to his recruitment in football. The 2023 standout has earned several offers, including most recently from Iowa State. He’s a borderline top 20 overall prospect in the 2023 class and could end up being closer to the top 15.
