Considering South Carolina has just shy of 10,000 prep football players between the SCHSL and SCISA ranks, it’s an inevitable part of the process. But even now, with two months before our next ranking update, we’re constantly looking for talent.
We want you to see what we’re looking at.
In our weekly series dubbed the Community Film Room, we’re going to break down players who have yet to find their way into the rankings. Maybe they’re young, haven’t had a chance to get their film out or – yes, it’s entirely possible – we just missed them the last time around.
In Episode 4, we’re breaking down four small-school athletes and a Class 4A offensive lineman who is hidden no more.
Kyle Baldwin Kyle Baldwin 5'10" | 190 lbs | DB Oceanside Collegiate Academy | 2025 State SC , WR, Oceanside Collegiate
No one is going to be pin-pointing Oceanside’s receivers this coming season, not with everything else this offense has going on. And that’s good news for a developing receiver unit that includes the 5-foot-10, 160-pound Baldwin. For now, he’s likely going to see snaps on both sides of the ball, but he’s got receiver instincts – which means great first step, some above-average cuts and enough speed to make it all count. A potentially dangerous seam option is a real possibility.
Carter Hardee, QB, Trinity Collegiate
It was easy to see why Hardee was so overlooked on the recruiting stage. He shared a backfield with two of the highest-producing tailbacks in the state in Tre McLeod Tre McLeod 6'2" | 185 lbs | DB Trinity Collegiate | 2022 State SC and Reggion Bennett Reggion Bennett 5'9" | 170 lbs | WR Trinity Collegiate School | 2022 State SC . But Hardee (pictured) took his first year with the program and played the role to a T. He threw for 644 yards and eight touchdowns while completing 52 percent of his passes and ran for another 150 yards and two scores. Year 2 at Trinity Collegiate could be big.
Jordan Moore, OL, Westwood
One of the more active guards in the state that we’ve seen, Moore is a pulling machine. That jumps off his film as the quick-footed lineman goes from Point A to Point B in a hurry. But what we have also noticed is his ability to stand up defensive tackles. He gets under their pads and neutralizes what is usually a size disparity. After all, Moore is listed at 6-foot and 255 pounds. Now, combine those two traits and you can see why he is frequently punishing linebackers.
Amond Myers Amond Myers 6'1" | 175 lbs | ATH C E Murray | 2023 State SC , WR, Kingstree
At 6-foot-1 and 175 pounds, Myers was a dedicated weapon in the final year of CE Murray’s existence. Now, with the school combining with Kingstree to form what could be a formidable Class 2A program, the speedster’s value only increases. In just nine games last season, he had 781 all-purpose yards and nine total touchdowns. Myers will be under consideration for all-state honors, and we expect him to meet that expectation.
Evan Sullivan, RB, McBee
McBee’s somewhat old-school rushing attack isn’t easy to defend, and Sullivan’s presence makes it potentially dangerous entering the 2022 season. The 5-foot-10, 170-pound back routinely breaks tackles and possesses some game-breaking speed in the open field. We won’t be surprised if the Panthers go to even more wildcat sets next fall specifically to highlight Sullivan’s ability to pick up valuable yards and move the sticks.
