One of the common phrases heard this time of year is "There are only so many big guys." You hear this from NFL people, College coaches and the talking heads on social media when it comes to draft prospects and recruits. To be honest, they’re not wrong. It’s no secret that size, both height and weight, play a major factor in the game of football. So today we are going to look at some of the 2023 prospects from central and northern Minnesota who are blessed with tantalizing height.

[player_tooltip player_id="19024" first="Michael" last="Haugo"] - 6’4" WR - Moorhead High School

The "short" guy on this list is [player_tooltip player_id="19024" first="Michael" last="Haugo"]. The 6’4" WR from Moorhead has excellent body control to go with an impressive vertical. He does a great job of utilizing his body to win 50/50 balls over smaller DB’s and has a natural ability to catch the ball. Haugo is far from a one trick pony, as he shows good hip flexibility breaking in and out of his routes. The sky is the limit for this athletic WR.

[player_tooltip player_id="295962" first="Owen" last="Leach"] - 6’6" QB/FS - Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton High School

[player_tooltip player_id="295962" first="Owen" last="Leach"] is tough to miss when he takes the field. Not many DB’s stand 6’6" tall and are able to retain the athleticism and short area quickness that Leach possesses. He’s not afraid to deliver the big hit and does a nice job filling in in the run game. On the offensive side of the ball Leach has decent arm and can make the throws that are asked of him but the most impressive thing is his ability to run the ball as his long strides make him tough to catch in the open field.

[player_tooltip player_id="226449" first="Jacob" last="Lopau"] - 6’7" OL - Rocori High School

[player_tooltip player_id="226449" first="Jacob" last="Lopau"] is the anchor of the Spartan OL and for good reason. The mammoth LT is a force in the run game and uses his length to make life difficult for edge rushers. Lopau is extremely physical and shows good athleticism when getting to the second level. College coaches love OL with good frames and Lopau should have lots of suitors as he heads into his senior season.

[player_tooltip player_id="295811" first="Caleb" last="Lange"] - 6’6" TE - Brainerd High School

When people talk about 6’6" TE’s, most of the time it’s about their ability to catch the ball, or be a big target for their QB. [player_tooltip player_id="295811" first="Caleb" last="Lange"] is a different breed of tall TE, this young man LOVES to block. His highlight tape is littered with big blocks and physical plays on special teams. He does show ability to be a factor in the pass game as well and has solid run after catch skills. This big body TE has a bright future and should garner plenty of interest over the next year.
