Continue ReadingWhen players see time at the RB position as Freshman, or Sophomores, it is typically an indicator of their ability to shoulder a load for the offense, and make plays with their legs that the rest of their team is not completely capable of. Because of this, it is always exciting to track future stars at the RB position because the likelihood of their talent continuing to grow is very high, especially with the more reps they take, and time on the field they witness. Since this is the case, we firmly believe that the players below will continue to make big plays for their teams in the future. Take a look at them when you get the chance, and be on the lookout for them before anyone else may know who they are.
Luke Windon- Bowdon
Last season, Windon impressed plenty of Bowdon fans, as he already became a difference maker for his team, even at a young age. With the ball in his hands, Windon is a quick athlete, who is great on his feet, and making people miss at the first level. Windon plays with a decent burst, and appears to read defenders well, using his stick move to make plays to gain more yards. We like his upside as a player and firmly believe he will continue to be a star for his team. Moving forward, we would like to see him improve his overall twitch and change of direction at the second level, as well as add weight to his frame. If he can manage to do these things, he will be a lethal player for his offense in the years to come.
Donovan Johnson Donovan Johnson 5'11" | 170 lbs | DB Holy Innocents | 2022 State GA – Calvary Day
Johnson’s name has already picked up steam, and gained attention throughout the state of Georgia, so it should come as no shocker that he found a way to make this list. He not only totaled around 10 TD’s last season, but his big bodied frame has already proven to be tough for defenders across the state to slow down. He plays the RB position with a great frame, and his footwork, balance, and ability to read and react fluidly, and effortlessly is what makes him a future star. Johnson has also shown flashes of a unique explosive ability that allows him to pick up speed, and run at a good stride, making for big plays on his part. We certainly think that his stock is rising, and if he can continue to cultivate this ability, he may become one of the best backs in the state within his class.
Zayden Walker- Schley County
Even though Walker can be a tad stiff at times, he is definitely an up and coming back in his class, as he totaled 18 TD’s on the ground last year. This largely comes from the power that he runs with, and the pad level that he carries the ball at, which makes it hard for defenders to bring him down on initial contact. Walker also plays with a great burst, and he finishes runs very well, even if it comes from gaining the hard yards. Moving forward, we think that his stock will continue to grow, but we would certainly like to see him improve his footwork, and the fluidity in his movement from time to time.
Quindarius Brown- Swainsboro
Brown is definitely one of the most talented runners of the football in his class, and it is evident within the first few clips of his film. Not only does he play with incredible burst and explosive ability, but he is consistent in his ability to finish plays. As a young player, he already has a great frame, and plays well behind his pads, which is proven by the way he handles contact, and is able to run through arm tackles. While he can be a bit of a straight line runner at times, we still believe in his overall twitch, and ability to change direction on a dime, and gain the hard yards through contact. Look for Brown to continue to improve going into next season, and for his stock to rise, with plenty of colleges slowly taking notice of his ability to run the football at a high level.
Cameron Bolton- Central
One thing that stands out about Bolton is his ability to run with great balance, and explosive ability. This allows him to gain extra yards on the ground, and to gain separation from those in pursuit of him when the ball is in his hands. Bolton also does a great job of shaking defenders with his solid footwork, and can also be seen to run through tackles when necessary as well. The fact that he does a good job of keeping his legs moving through contact at this age is very impressive, and we love the way that he has a strong stride, that is hard to break with arm tackles. Look for Bolton to continue to develop in his frame, as well as the way he reads the defense, and is able to react naturally. It is only a matter of time before colleges take notice of him.
