There is no shortage of running back talent in the DMV’s class of 2023. The following breakdowns give comprehensive analysis of each running back and what their situations are for the 2022 season. Each running back listed has D1 potential and should be looked at in-depth by scouts nationwide.
2023 6’1 195 RB – [player_tooltip player_id="246850" first="Durrell" last="Robinson"] – St. Frances Academy
There’s no doubt in my mind that [player_tooltip player_id="246850" first="Durrell" last="Robinson"] will have a dominant season in 2022. He’s one of the top running backs in the nation, and, with a dual-threat quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="172210" first="Michael" last="Van Buren"] now under center, Robinson will draw less attention from defenses and will have more open space to operate with as a result. As a Junior, [player_tooltip player_id="246850" first="Durrell" last="Robinson"] thrived with a pocket passer under center and he proved that he can put up huge yards after contact numbers. Now, as a Senior with a mobile quarterback, Robinson will finally have a decoy to work with that will only improve his overall game. Last season [player_tooltip player_id="246850" first="Durrell" last="Robinson"] demonstrated that his size and speed are both a mismatch for defenses. Now, he has the chance to showcase what he’s capable of under ideal circumstances as a member of a truly dynamic offense. Scouts nationwide must be ready for [player_tooltip player_id="246850" first="Durrell" last="Robinson"] and the St. Frances Academy Panthers to dominate in the Fall.

2023 5’9 180 RB – [player_tooltip player_id="90681" first="Brendon" last="Wyatt"] – DeMatha
[player_tooltip player_id="90681" first="Brendon" last="Wyatt"] was one of the most efficient running backs in the WCAC last season, and he’s only going to improve this offseason. Wyatt is an incredibly patient runner with great vision and he demonstrated this clearly in 2021. He runs the ball against some of the most elite defenses in the nation, therefore it’s reasonable to conclude that Wyatt’s skillset will translate very well at the next level. [player_tooltip player_id="90681" first="Brendon" last="Wyatt"] is also a leader on and off the field, and he’s very much a player that any coach would love to have in their locker room. He’s a great teammate who plays with heart, and it wouldn’t surprise me at all if [player_tooltip player_id="90681" first="Brendon" last="Wyatt"] helped lead the DeMatha Stags to a WCAC Championship in 2022. The Stags are my way too early pick to win the conference and Senior running back [player_tooltip player_id="90681" first="Brendon" last="Wyatt"] has a lot to do with my choice. Scouts everywhere must have him in their radars.

2023 5’10 190 RB – [player_tooltip player_id="124384" first="Bryce" last="Cox"] – Mount Saint Joseph’s
[player_tooltip player_id="124384" first="Bryce" last="Cox"] racked up more than 1300 all-purpose yards during the 2021 season, and he possesses a true knack for scoring touchdowns. Watching [player_tooltip player_id="124384" first="Bryce" last="Cox"] run the football is like watching a cannon ball get shot out of a cannon. The second he’s given the ball he blasts through any offensive line, and this is a major reason why he had such a high yards after contact average this past season. Cox will absolutely command the backfield for the Gaels in 2021, and it would not be a surprise at all if he surpasses his numbers from last season in every category. Mount Saint Joseph’s will be a handful to deal with in the MIAA in Maryland next season, and [player_tooltip player_id="124384" first="Bryce" last="Cox"] has a lot to do with that fact. Cox possesses a very high ceiling, and D1 scouts must keep an eye on him this upcoming season.

2023 5’9 190 RB – [player_tooltip player_id="146616" first="Jamal" last="Mungo"] – Archbishop Carroll
The 2022 season will be a breakout one for [player_tooltip player_id="146616" first="Jamal" last="Mungo"]. With Carroll’s Senior running back set to graduate this Spring, [player_tooltip player_id="146616" first="Jamal" last="Mungo"] will command the backfield, once Fall rolls around, and he will do so very efficiently. As a backup, Mungo accumulated almost 500 rushing yards last season, therefore there’s no telling the heights Mungo will reach as a full-time starter. He possesses elite level quickness and elusiveness, and, even at 5’9, he is extremely difficult to tackle. Archbishop Carroll nearly achieved a perfect season last year, so it’s safe to say that the entire roster will be chasing excellence yet again. This very much includes soon to be starting running back [player_tooltip player_id="146616" first="Jamal" last="Mungo"], and, for this reason, scouts everywhere must prepare themselves for his arrival. [player_tooltip player_id="146616" first="Jamal" last="Mungo"] absolutely has D1 potential.

2023 5’7 190 RB – [player_tooltip player_id="90663" first="Cedric" last="Benning"] – Saint Vincent Pallotti
If you’re looking for an all-around offensive weapon, with a ton of speed and elusiveness coming out of the backfield, then look no further than [player_tooltip player_id="90663" first="Cedric" last="Benning"]. Benning is absolutely Pallotti’s most dynamic offensive player, and the reason for this is his running and catching abilities. There’s nothing that [player_tooltip player_id="90663" first="Cedric" last="Benning"] does not do for this football team, and his mindset is truly embodied by the fact that he refuses to be tackled. On any given play, Benning can be seen shacking off multiple tackles and running through defensive players because he has a no quit type mindset. Game in and game out he runs his hardest and gives it his all on every single play because he knows he is one of the smallest players on the field. Overlooking [player_tooltip player_id="90663" first="Cedric" last="Benning"] because of his size would be a colossal mistake, and I am here to make Benning’s case for the D1 level. He has showcased more than enough potential, and he will continue to do so during the 2022 season. Scouts must accept that [player_tooltip player_id="90663" first="Cedric" last="Benning"]’s ceiling is much higher than they think.

2023 5’7 175 RB – [player_tooltip player_id="247276" first="Dawon" last="Dorsey"] – Calvert Hall
[player_tooltip player_id="247276" first="Dawon" last="Dorsey"] was an integral part of Calvert Hall’s MIAA Championship victory last season, and he is in a prime position to prove it yet again this upcoming season. Dorsey rushed for almost 1,000 yards and 10 touchdowns last season, and he did so on an offense that loves to throw the ball. [player_tooltip player_id="247276" first="Dawon" last="Dorsey"] has proved year in and year out that he possesses a phenomenal work ethic and that he does not shy away from hard work during the offseason. If he develops this offseason like he has during others, then we can expect to see another 1st Team All-MIAA type season from Dorsey. He absolutely has what it takes, and it would not be surprising to see him lead Calvert Hall to a championship repeat. [player_tooltip player_id="247276" first="Dawon" last="Dorsey"] has D1 potential, and scouts everywhere must take his recruitment very seriously.
