It’s a massive week for football, and now we’ve got a sure look at where our top recruits will be playing in 2022. Something I find fascinating about this class is the diversity of schools. Just a few years ago, the top 15 would be 90% Michigan and Michigan State, but it seems many other schools have taken notice of Michigan’s talent.
#1 [player_tooltip player_id="30129" first="William" last="Johnson"] - DB - Grosse Pointe South - Michigan
The consensus #1 in Michigan will soon be a Wolverine. Johnson is a great DB who will likely receive an early opportunity to take the field at The Big House.
#2 [player_tooltip player_id="30131" first="Joshua" last="Burnham"] - LB - Traverse City Central - Notre Dame
Burnham is a freak of nature who is an elite run-stopper and true Middle Linebacker. He’s incredibly excited to go to Notre Dame, and I can’t wait to see him play
#3 [player_tooltip player_id="30286" first="Deone" last="Walker"] - DL - Cass Tech - Kentucky
Kentucky has developed its linemen well, and I feel great about Walker. He’s big, strong, and dominant and is set to compete for significant playing time right off the bat.
#4 [player_tooltip player_id="30128" first="Alex" last="VanSumeren"] - DL - Garber - Michigan State
Another elite defensive line prospect, VanSumeren, heads to Michigan State, who just hired a great defensive line coach. I genuinely feel great about the development of MSU defensive linemen in general.
#5 [player_tooltip player_id="160570" first="Myles" last="Rowser"] - DB - Belleville - Campbell
I won’t get too much into it, but it’s been a rough couple of months off the field for Rowser. He’s a very talented young man who still has incredible potential and a chance to be something special.
#6 [player_tooltip player_id="30144" first="Tyrell" last="Henry"] - WR - Roseville - Michigan State
Henry was one of those guys who shot up the boards. He’s an all-around athlete, and he lit up Friday nights. He’ll be a great piece at MSU.
#7 [player_tooltip player_id="30133" first="Dillon" last="Tatum"] - RB - West Bloomfield - Michigan State
A very motivated young man who will do great things at MSU. The West Bloomfield back played incredible this season, and he could contribute to Michigan State right away. Very excited for Tatum.
#8 [player_tooltip player_id="30132" first="Antonio" last="Gates Jr"]. - WR - Fordson - Michigan State
With the Football Family that Antonio Gates comes from, it’s hard to imagine him not panning out. He’s a vast, physical receiver who works his tail off.
#9 [player_tooltip player_id="30137" first="Nolan" last="Ziegler"] - LB - GR Catholic Central - Notre Dame
[player_tooltip player_id="30137" first="Nolan" last="Ziegler"] is speedy and can hit like a truck, not your average linebacker. He’s a great outside linebacker who can stop the run and play great coverage. He’s another one of those guys who’s incredibly excited to head to the team he’s rooted for his whole life.
#10 [player_tooltip player_id="30130" first="Christian" last="Rapley"] - ATH - Belleville - Undecided
Rapley is a free agent who will be able to go to most anywhere. Interesting to see how this plays out.
#11 [player_tooltip player_id="30147" first="Deshaun" last="Lee"] - DB - Belleville - Iowa
Iowa has a gem right here. Lee is a great athlete who played for the state’s best, most talented program.
#12 [player_tooltip player_id="30135" first="Michael" last="Williams II"] - LB - West Bloomfield - South Florida
Williams II set records for West Bloomfield as well as the whole MHSAA. He’s a linebacker who can rush the passer incredibly well, and all-around he’s an incredible athlete. This is another guy who I have very high hopes for, and I hope to see him play early on in South Florida.
#13 [player_tooltip player_id="30160" first="Jeremiah" last="Caldwell"] - ATH - Belleville - Louisville
Caldwell is a big athlete who lit it up during the state championships, going for over 200 yards. It’s fascinating to see these Belleville athletes going to schools other than Michigan and Michigan State, and I say good for them. These schools are getting gems, and they’ll all be heading to schools that will give them a great shot.
#14 [player_tooltip player_id="240658" first="Aidan" last="Vaughn"] - LB - Walled Lake Western - Wisconsin
Vaughn leads to a Wisconsin team known for excellent B1G 10 defense. He’s a vastly underrated prospect during his years at Walled Lake Western, and I have no doubt he’ll give his 100%.
#15 [player_tooltip player_id="30148" first="Lynn" last="Wyche-El"] - WR - Detroit MLK - Grand Valley State
Grand Valley State hits a grand slam with this pickup. I don’t have any information on why Wyche-El didn’t get picked up by an excellent D1 program, but he’s a great talent going to a fantastic DII program that knows how to develop talent. It’s also notable that former Michigan Receiver Roy Roundtree will coach Wyche-El.
