The backs below showed that their classification means nothing. They balled out last season and are making names for themselves as they continue to get better everyday. These are all players to keep track off as they may pop up as top talent in the state in the future! Of course if we have missed anybody, let us know!
Jeremy Payne – Fort Bend Hightower
Payne ran for 1,442 yards and 10 touchdowns and proved to be a top back in the area as a sophomore. The quickness through the hole and physical running stands out. He is a strong runner with good fluid movements who can also get past a secondary with his speed. Payne makes things happen in space and will lower the shoulder on anybody in his was. To think that he did that much damage as a sophomore and that he has 2 more years to develop into something even better is scary. Payne will be a name mentioned a ton.
Raymond Edwards – Clear Springs
Edwards was electric on film and showed to be an excellent pick for this list. Edwards displays top burst and acceleration from the handoff and has a good shiftiness to his game. He makes defenders miss in tight spaces but also has the strength to power through tackles. Edwards had himself a tremendous sophomore season with 1,499 rushing yards and 15 rushing touchdowns.
Tylik Burton – Shadow Creek
Burton is a special talent for the Sharks offense with his big play ability and skills in the open field. He is a quick back who is one of the toughest to take down when he gets to the outside. Burton shows great balance and agility, and with a zone running scheme can find his running lanes and explode through them. Burton hits another gear when he sees open field and cannot be stopped once he gets going. He has definitely caught the eyes of many but is nowhere near done making a name for himself!
Trey Morris – Cy Falls
Morris proved to be a do it all back for his sophomore season. He was a focal part of the offense and did not disappoint. Morris showed that he was a strong runner and a player you can rely on to get the yards needed. He showed very good vision and power when carrying the ball and made some ankle breaking moves as well. Morris showed great effort and a will to not go down without a fight which you love to see. Morris ran for a hard fought 1,069 yards and 6 touchdowns on the season and earned his spot on this list.
Bryce Burgess – Dawson
Now this is a player who can ball. Burgess is something special. Crazy explosion, change of direction, and shiftiness. He hits the hole with incredible burst and can stop on a dime. He can change gears with ease and flatout outrun an entire defense. Burgess’s size allows him to squeeze through tiny gaps and with his acceleration he can be down the field before a team knows where he is. Burgess’s vision when he presses the line as well is top notch. He does an excellent job of pressing, then using his agility and quickness to redirect himself. He ran for a very impressive 1,423 yards and 16 touchdowns this past season and has definitely put his name on the radar. He is straight dawg with the ball in his hands watch out for him!
Dominic Ramirez Dominic Ramirez 5'9" | 175 lbs | RB Katy Cinco Ranch | 2024 TX – Cypress Creek
Ramirez proved to be a real threat out of the backfield using both his running and pass catching abilities. Ramirez took much advantage of the moments he was able to get out in space. He showed good vision and was decisive with his moves. Ramirez was a patient runner who let his blocks develop and showed very good acceleration through the running lanes. Swing routes and screens were the plays that Ramirez made a living. Once he got to the outside, he was a challenge to bring down. Ramirez showed good toughness and strength when finishing off runs as well. He finished his sophomore season with 650 rushing yards with 6 touchdowns, and 517 receiving yards with 5 touchdowns on 57 catches.
