This was a HUGE week for Michigan High School Football. It was signing week, which means lots of commits and excitement all around. Today, I’ll be going over all of the big, surprising news that occurred this week. I’ll be sticking primarily to commits that came as a surprise or commits we’ve been waiting a long time for, rather than signings that we knew were going to happen for a while. Let’s get into this week’s news!
[player_tooltip player_id="162655" first="Cole" last="Cabana"] commits to Michigan
This big news that dropped yesterday was that Dexter RB [player_tooltip player_id="162655" first="Cole" last="Cabana"] (thumbnail) is officially a Wolverine. It was largely a recruiting battle between the Spartans and Wolverines, with Michigan being the choice for Cabana. Cabana will compete regardless of Michigan’s RB room, and I expect him to play a role in the offense in the coming years. Michigan has demonstrated its ability to develop great running backs, and I expect Mike Hart to turn Cabana into a monster.
[player_tooltip player_id="30317" first="Johnathan" last="Slack"] commits to Michigan State
The big Detroit MLK tackle is committed to Michigan State. With offers from Cincinnati, Boston College, and others, this is an excellent choice for Slack and an excellent pickup for the Spartans.

[player_tooltip player_id="160570" first="Myles" last="Rowser"] signs with Campbell College
A renowned defensive back prospect, [player_tooltip player_id="160570" first="Myles" last="Rowser"] has signed with Campbell College in North Carolina. Rowser had a few things impact his commitment, but now he’s landed with the Camels, who have their highest-rated recruit in school history. Truly an NFL ceiling, Rowser is a name to watch.

[player_tooltip player_id="154344" first="Kyle" last="Kloska"] commits to Central Michigan after de-commiting from Saginaw Valley State
Deservingly, West Catholic T [player_tooltip player_id="154344" first="Kyle" last="Kloska"] lands with a Division 1 program. Kloska was committed to Saginaw Valley State for quite some time, but he flipped to Central Michigan at the last moment. He was one of the best linemen I watched all season, and I genuinely expect Kloska to develop well at CMU.

[player_tooltip player_id="93771" first="Aaron" last="Alexander"] signs with UMass
[player_tooltip player_id="93771" first="Aaron" last="Alexander"] is a versatile defender who can deal damage in multiple areas. He’s an athlete who does it all. Alexander, previously committed to Michigan, has signed with UMass.

[player_tooltip player_id="234420" first="Khamari" last="Anderson"] commits to Cincinnati
Cass Tech class of 2023 TE [player_tooltip player_id="234420" first="Khamari" last="Anderson"] has committed to Cincinnati. The big, talented TE is set to be a Bearcat, and by the looks of it, he’ll have the opportunity to develop into something special.

[player_tooltip player_id="30322" first="Drew" last="Viotto"] commits to Eastern Michigan
Walled Lake Western QB [player_tooltip player_id="30322" first="Drew" last="Viotto"] has committed to Eastern Michigan. The MAC prospect had an incredible 2021 season with some excellent offseason work, and I’m happy to see him commit to a program like Eastern.

[player_tooltip player_id="30148" first="Lynn" last="Wyche-El"] signs with Grand Valley State
Detroit MLK WR [player_tooltip player_id="30148" first="Lynn" last="Wyche-El"] has signed with Grand Valley State in what is a splash signing. Former Michigan WR Roy Roundtree will be Wyche-El’s Wide Receiver coach, and he’ll be joining a very prestigious DII program with a prominent passing game.

[player_tooltip player_id="93695" first="Hunter" last="Ames A splash signing, I feel this is great for both parties."] commits to Hope College as a dual-sport athlete
By far the most clutch QB I watched all season, Grand Blanc’s [player_tooltip player_id="93695" first="Hunter" last="Ames"] will be headed to Hope College to play football and baseball. Athletics at Hope are no joke, and Ames will be joining some great teams. This, I feel, is an excellent fit for Ames, as he’ll have the opportunity to thrive in multiple areas.
