Grant Stec Grant Stec 6'6" | 245 lbs | TE Jacobs | 2024 State IL Twitter
Mr. Stec is a name that’s been on my radar for some time and one that took his snaps at the Varsity level where he worked both as a tight end as well as an outside receiver at times. He has impressive hand/eye coordination, body control, and hands which is showcased in one particular clip in his highlights. In this clip, he dives for the ball along the sideline and is able to come away with the grab as it looked like an easy interception for the defender. His athleticism allows him to play as a tight end as well as be split out wide, both of which he uses his built up speed with his long strides to threaten the defense vertically. This young man has a good frame, combined with his good jumping ability and good hands he’s able to play above the rim as well as catch high passes over defenders. He also can go up for 50/50 balls where he can attack the ball at the highest point to come down with the contested catch. When the cornerback is playing “off” coverage he uses his long strides to close the cushion between him and the defender quickly. This also helps him gain the step advantage as well as win over the top on deep shots downfield. We do get an insight into his in-line blocking where he can deliver a quick punch getting inside hand placement and can keep his feet driving through the whistle. He also showcased the ability to get to 2nd level blocks cutting off linebacker flow. The craziest part about this young man is that he still has room to add to his frame without losing a step and has untapped potential yet to come to light. There’s no wonder why he has the amount of FBS Offers that he does. Highlights
Luke Johnsen Luke Johnsen 6'3" | 260 lbs | TE Geneseo | 2024 IL Twitter
Mr. Johnsen is a name that was on my radar heading into this fall season and one that took his snaps on Varsity. There weren’t any clips in his highlights showcasing any pass catching clips. That being said, I am intersted to see how he would fair running underneath routes or checkdowns. I do beleive he could potentially check and release into the flat as well. He mainly work in-line blocking where he can deliver a punch to get inside hand placement for solid initial contact on the defender. There are glmipses of him attacking out of his stance against a head up defender, a trait to keep an eye on moving forward. In pass protection, he also showcased glmipses of being able to anchor against a bull rushing defensive end as well as maintaining a solid base. This young man stands at 6’4 260 and is looking like he’s going to mold into more of a blocking tight end/h-back. I’m curious to see how he’s going to be utilized in his Junior Season Campaign as I do beleive he could potentially get utilized on checkdowns in the air attack. Currently holds no offers. Highlights
Lucas Austin Lucas Austin 6'7" | 250 lbs | OL Sterling | 2024 State IL Twitter
Mr. Austin is a new name to me this season and one that came onto my radar towards the end of the fall season where he took his snaps on Varsity and it was his first season of organized football. He’s primarily used as an H-Back and has good size standing at 6’6 230. He has good height and a good catch radius to bring in high passes. This is seen in the first clip of his highlights is with him in the redzone where he comes out from the H-Back position to high point the ball in the flat before he runs the defender over falling short of the endzone. He can also make the catch in the flat with the defender all over his back as well. These are his only two receptions of the year but it gives an insight into the potential that he has as a receiving option, especially with his long catch radius. When he’s run blocking, he’s used as a lead blocker on counter and power runs where he can kickout the defensive end as well as seal the outside linebacker. He can also get to 2nd level blocks cutting off linebacker flow and makes solid initial contact on blocks. This young man has such a high upside and raw potential as he’s only had one year of organized football under his belt. Be sure to keep an eye on how he develops this off season and the production that he has during his Junior Season Campaign. Currently holds no offers. Highlights
Jack Swaney Jack Swaney 6'2" | 225 lbs | TE Springfield | 2024 IL Twitter
Mr. Swaney is a name that came onto my radar in the middle of the fall season and one that took his snaps on Varsity. He provides glimpses of his hand/eye coordination to adjust and make tough catches downfield. This young man also gave us an insight into tracking the ball on deep shots downfield as well as making the catch in traffic. There’s a clip in his highlights where he shows hands quickly after releasing from the line of scrimmage to make the catch between two linebackers coming away with the first down on the play. During the QB scramble drill, he’s able to see his quarterback is in trouble and goes vertical to become an outlet. Upon doing so, he ends up securing the deep shot downfield and in these instances (in his highlights) he’s open with the defender a few yards behind him. When he’s going against zone coverage he can find the soft spot in coverage to become an outlet for his quarterback as well. Once he secures the pass in the flat, he gets vertical and isn’t afraid to play through contact running defenders over. There’s a clip in his highlights where he secures the catch and runs over not one but two defenders in the process of gaining the first down. This young man primarily works as a tight end on the line of scrimmage, I could also see him being utilized as an H-Back as well. Currently holds no offers. Highlights
Charlie Mullen Charlie Mullen 6'4" | 180 lbs | TE Marquette | 2024 IL Twitter
Mr. Mullen is a name that came onto my radar during this fall season and his highlights seem to be a mix of JV/Varsity. He showcased glimpses of being able to play above the rim and go up for 50/50 balls. Upon doing so, he can attack the ball at the highest point to come down with the contested catch giving an insight into his ability to catch high passes over the defender. Once he secures the catch, he did showcase an ability to get vertical gaining extra yards on the play. This young man is more of a receiving tight end that could end up being split out wide as an outside receiver as well. He’s a high potential player to keep an eye on that also possesses the ability to play outside linebacker as well. Standing at 6’4 180, he has room to add to his frame without losing a step and time will tell which position he ends up getting molded into. I am curious to see how he would fair run blocking in-line and how well his route running is going to be during his Junior Season Campaign. Currently holds no offers. Highlights
