Jazz Coleman – Speedway – RB – 5’11” 180 lbs
Coleman is dynamic, yet physical and is just starting to get his feet wet in the backfield. He’s got decent vision and is able to find cutback lanes. Once he’s out in the open field, he’ll direct traffic and pick up extra yardage. He’s got decent speed and is able to rip off big runs. For his age and size, he’s got a nice frame that he could easily bulk up with. He’s a hardnose runner and is going to try delivering a hit. He won’t make a ton of guys miss, but he can break tackles. He’ll get low and square his shoulders and dish out the hit. In terms of RB, he’s raw with footwork, pass protection, and ball security. I’d really like to see him get that ball high and tight. Sometimes he lets the ball leave his body and lets it swing around. He’s also got very good contact balance and is able to absorb hits without any issue. As he gets older and stronger, it’s very possible he could become a bulldozer. He’s a tough runner now and knows how to use his strengths on the field. Coleman is fairly raw but he’s got 4+ years to develop on and off the field. There’s a lot to like with Coleman and what he could bring to the next level.
Brady Ballart – South Dearborn – TE – 6’2″ 185 lbs
Ballart is an intriguing prospect coming down the pipe and if he’s able to develop, he can be really good. He’s a true 6’2″ but is still a bit on the slender side. Obviously, he’s got 4 years to hit the weight room and if he does, he’s going to be a force. He has no issue going up the seems and taking the big hits. He doesn’t panic when he sees a hit coming and holds onto the ball. He’s able to high point the ball and win those 50/50 balls. In the redzone, he’s shown the ability to win those 1 on 1s as well. He’s got a nice vertical and uses both hands to bring in the ball. He’s very fundamentally sound in that category. Ballart has also shown he’s not afraid to seal the edge or block downfield if he’s asked to. He isn’t the most refined blocker yet but he’s more than capable. If Ballart continues to develop and is able to bulk up some, he could develop into one of the better TE prospects in the region. He plays smart, he’s tough, he’s got good ball skills, and is still learning the position. Ballart’s potential is as high as he wants to take it and hopefully, he reaches the ceiling.
Fa’rel Carter – Decatur Central – ATH – 5’9″ 148 lbs
We’ve got a good one! Carter is dynamic and good things happen when he touches the ball. He plays RB, WR, and returns kicks. It’s very likely he’ll do the same thing at the varsity level at some point. When he’s coming out of the backfield, he’s got fairly decent vision. He’s able to find cutback lanes and get there just as quick as he sees it. He’s very jittery and is able to make pretty much anyone miss in the open field. When he lines up at WR, he’s able to get open on demand and isn’t going to drop the ball. Mechanically, at RB and WR he’s fairly raw and could use some decent amount of coaching. I’d also like to see him bulk up some during his HS career. He’s got fantastic top-end speed and once he hits the open field, he isn’t going to be caught very often. The offense was just to get the ball in his hands. I found myself chuckling and saying wow way too many times when I flipped on his tape. He’ll weave through the entire defense while making everyone miss in the process. He finds lanes that shouldn’t even exist. Defensive Coordinators are going to have long nights trying to figure out how to get this dude on the ground. Carter is fun and if he’s able to develop, he’s a D1 recruit.
Terry Walker – Fishers – QB – 6’1″ 160 lbs
Walker is a dual-threat QB who has the potential to be really good. In the passing game, especially for his age, Walker is fairly decent. He’s got decent arm strength already and is able to throw the ball 50-yards easily. He doesn’t seem to have any issues holding or gripping the ball either. When he gets in a groove, he can throw with anticipation and knows where to go with the ball. He doesn’t typically lock onto 1 guy or predetermine his read. There are moments where he struggles but every QB does when learning how to go through full reads. He’s able to extend plays with his legs and keep the play alive. He’ll scramble out of the pocket and keep his eyes downfield. If he doesn’t like what he sees, then he’ll take off. Also for his age, his drop back and mechanics are fairly decent. He feels like someone who has been coached hard for years. While I don’t know if he’ll start day 1 for varsity, I imagine he’s coming in with the expectation to take the job. Even if he doesn’t win the job right away, he’ll give the starter a good run for their money. If Walker is able to continue developing and plays well, he’ll have offers come in rather quickly. He’s too dynamic and has way too many tools to go unnoticed for very long. By the time he graduates, he could easily be 1 of the best QBs in the state if he continues to put the work in.
