My thoughts are; if you have a solid run game, your offense is going to be successful, that is typically the case here again and this group did a great job handling the ball for their offenses. Kids who will hold on to the ball and gain good chunks of yardage when given the ball. Check them out below!
Tate Hoffman Tate Hoffman 5'10" | 180 lbs | RB Miller/Highmore/Harrold | 2023 State – Miller-Highmore
Hoffman has great vision when he takes the handoff. He follows the blocks, then finds the gap and hits the jets for the big play. Nothing flashy at all, just straight ahead running, outrunning the defense usually. He can run with power or speed, arm tackles don’t take him down with his high knee drive. On the Goal Line, it takes multiple defenders to bring him down, as he is looking to run through any defender in his way looking for the end zone. He makes a very good one cut on runs when he needs to and finds the backside gap to run through really well. He is good in pass blocking as well picking up blitzes and keeping the QB upright.
Hadley Wallace Hadley Wallace 5'10" | 190 lbs | RB Hanson | 2023 State – Hanson
Wallace loved running around the perimeter. As a wing in a double-tight-double-wing offense, thats where most of his runs went. He had good vision and awareness to know when to cut upfield or keep stretching it. He had great balance when making his cut, taking a hit around the feet and staying up. His acceleration was phenomenal and really left defenders in the dust when he hit full-speed. He did not go down easy, I liked seeing him drive through smaller defenders and continue to turn the wheels until he had two more guys come get him.
Jackson Jarding Jackson Jarding RB Hanson | 2023 State – Hanson
Jarding was a more between the tackles runner, (I guess between guards since it’s 9-man.) He was a shiftier back, showed a lot of agility and drive. He made hard cuts up the field when following his blocks up the gap. He had good vision to find the open space and is really hard to corral by one, or even two players. He has plenty of agility, but doesn’t rely on it, he still gains ground on his jukes and has quick turn-over to accelerate quickly. He will also run over a guy on the goal line to finish off a drive. While he shows great attributes as a runner, he can also be split out wide and be a scary receiver to throw to as well. He runs good routes with speed and precision and has an amazing set of hands.
Owen Quail Owen Quail RB Deuel | 2023 State – Deuel
Quail is a good outside zone runner. A kid who has speed to get around the edge and get big gains off the perimeter. He also has the vision and the patience to let blocks develop and hits the gap with conviction. One thing I always enjoy seeing in his runs are that he gets from point A to point B as soon as possible, doesn’t waste time dancing in the backfield. He moves well laterally to set up his quick burst of acceleration for the big gain. He will hit the cutback lanes hard as well and run through the lone defender waiting there to really rip off a big gain. He can also pick up blitzes to keep his QB clean and give him time to make a pass.
Carl Henry Carl Henry 5'11" | 190 lbs | RB Bismarck Legacy | 2023 State – Bismarck Legacy
Henry is the type of runner that moves quickly and violently. He hits the gap hard and hits top speed right at the Line of Scrimmage. One impressive thing I picked up on is that he can hold his top speed while making a move, so he doesn’t lose ground while making a cut and defenders can’t close in as quick. If the speed and agility doesn’t get him by all the defenders, his strength will, running over that last guy in the third level after outrunning the first ten and leaving them in the dust on his gains. He has great vision for the cutback lanes and can really fake defenders out when changing directions on a dime.
