Class of 2023: Top TE

Currently, there are 6 TE in the class of 2023 Prep redzone rankings in Ohio and they are all in the top 68. All of whom are very talented at playing one of the toughest positions on the field since they are asked to block and catch. Here is a look at the TE in the class of 2023. [player_tooltip player_id="160229" first="Jackson" last="McGohan"], 6’5, 210, Miamisburg [player_tooltip player_id="160229" first="Jackson" last="McGohan"] is the #1 ranked TE and the 8th ranked player in the class of 2023 overall.  His great play in 2021 helped the Miamisburg Vikings win 6 games and score at least 31 points 4 times. He plays out wide. He takes long strides as he eats up the cushion of the CB, shows fluid hips as he breaks off his stem at a 45 degree angle on a slant route and displays rare hands as he can high point the ball and make a spectacular one-handed catch. After the catch is made, he displays good acceleration and athletic ability to gain significant YAC. [player_tooltip player_id="141072" first="Tanner" last="LeMaster"], 6’6, 235, Washington [player_tooltip player_id="141072" first="Tanner" last="LeMaster"] is the 2nd ranked TE and the 48th ranked player in the class of 2023 overall. His outstanding play in 2021 was a bright spot in the Washington Blue Lions 4-6 season. He lines up in the slot and out wide. He is an outstanding blocker as he uses his very good play strength and physical toughness to pancake block the DE creating a lane for the RB. He displays good play speed as he gets behind the CB on a go route, tracks the ball well in the air and uses his great height and leaping ability to make the catch on 50/50 balls. [player_tooltip player_id="92619" first="Caleb" last="Arthur"], 6’4, 210, Wheelersburg [player_tooltip player_id="92619" first="Caleb" last="Arthur"] is the 3rd ranked TE and the 51st ranked player in the class of 2023 overall. His very good play in 2021 helped the Wheelersburg Pirates to a 10-4 season, advance to the 4th round of the playoffs and average 23.8 points per game. He lines up inline as a "Y" as well as in the slot. He is a good route runner who shows good hands as he easily makes the catch and displays very good play speed and athletic ability as he outruns all defenders for a long touchdown run. He also does a great job of working back to the QB on broken plays. His good play in 2021 helped the Dublin Scioto Irish to an 8-4 record and advance to the 2nd round of the playoffs. He lines up as an H-Back and inline. He shows good football intelligence as he reads the coverage and finds the soft spot in zone. He displays good hands as he makes the catch and shows good play strength as he drags the DB for a few yards to pick up a first down. An excellent run blocker who displays excellent hands as he wins battles with his hands inside against the OLB. He then shows great physical toughness as he drives his man off the ball creating a big lane for the RB and finishes up with a pancake block. His solid play in 2021 was a bright spot in the 3-7 season of the Shaker Heights Red Raiders. He lines up inline as a Y. He shows great quickness off the ball and displays good play speed as he gets open down the field and makes the catch on passes that are thrown high. He displays very good competitive toughness as he is very reliable in the passing game when the Red Raiders have the ball in the redzone. His standout performance in 2021 was a bright spot in the 2-9 season of the Warhawks. He lines up in the slot and out wide. He does a good job of reading the coverage and breaks off his stem at a 90 degree angle on dig and out routes. He shows very good ability adjusting his body to the ball if it is thrown low to make an impressive catch.
