Big Play QB/WR Combos Returning In The Upstate
In this article:
The Upstate has a ton of talent back on the offensive side of the ball, including some big-time QB-WR combos who racked up a ton of touchdowns and yardage last season. Here’s a look at four duos who will look to fill up the stat sheet this fall.
Bennett Judy Bennett Judy 6'3" | 195 lbs | QB Hillcrest | 2023 State SC and Avery McFadden Avery McFadden 5'10" | 175 lbs | WR Hillcrest | 2024 State SC , Hillcrest – Judy exploded into the quarterback rankings last season, powered by a big arm and some even bigger stats. He threw for 3,160 yards and accounted for 43 touchdowns for the Rams. Judy can stand in the pocket and deliver, he can throw on the move, and he can sure find McFadden. A pure burner and an electric kick returner, McFadden had more than 1,600 all-purpose yards. More than 1,000 came on receptions, with 13 receiving touchdowns on the year.
Eli Hudgins and Drake Sloan, Powdersville – Hudgins and Sloan were among a slew of talented underclassmen who helped pace the Patriots to their best season ever. Hudgins tossed 31 touchdowns and threw for more than 2,000 yards, with Sloan as his biggest weapon. They’re both back, and their explosiveness paired with a stout defense will have hopes high in Powdersville.
Grayson Loftis Grayson Loftis 6'2" | 175 lbs | QB Gaffney | 2023 State SC and Deshun Corry, Gaffney – Loftis, a Duke commit, helped the Indians to a 15-0 record and the Class 5A championship by doing only what was asked of him. Make no mistake, though, he can make every throw on the field. He spread his 2,300 passing yards and 24 touchdowns around last year, as the Indians didn’t have a receiver with 600 yards, but had five guys with at least 220. Corry was right in the middle of that mix, with 445 receiving yards, two touchdowns, and a team-leading 16.5 average among players with 20 or more catches.
Raheim Jeter Raheim Jeter 6'3" | 220 lbs | QB Spartanburg | 2023 State SC and Andrew Dantin, Spartanburg – Jeter, who will play at West Virginia, missed a couple of early games for the Vikings. When he returned, it was with a vengance. The junior led the Vikings to the Region II-5A title and a berth in the Upper State championship with 2,979 yards and 27 TDs. The one that clinched the region title went to Dantin, a player Jeter refers to as “All Day” – as in OPEN all day. Dantin showed a knack for both running past defenders and finding holes and soft spots to settle and collect passes. And, he virtually never goes down on first contact.
