I’ve found myself looking into the Big North conference, and as I did, four players immediately popped into my mind. Now, not many people think of the Big North as a goldmine of talent, but I’m telling you. Petoskey, Alpena, Gaylord, and Cadillac all have a guy who has the potential to play good college ball, so here’s a breakdown of those four guys!
[player_tooltip player_id="249497" first="CJ" last="Hibbler"] - Petoskey WR - 2024
A very underrated talent from Petoskey, [player_tooltip player_id="249497" first="CJ" last="Hibbler"]’s game reminds me a ton of [player_tooltip player_id="188032" first="Eric" last="Christoff"] or even [player_tooltip player_id="232201" first="Alex" last="McLean"]. He’s blazing fast with a 4.48 40-yard dash and a 52.66 400m dash, which places him top-50 in the state in terms of the 400m. Hibbler can make plays down the field, turn a screen into big yardage, etc. I’m surprised that Hibbler hasn’t received more attention, and I believe he deserves to attend some of the bigger SE Michigan camps where he’ll get more eyes on him while competing against top talent.
[player_tooltip player_id="249498" first="Brady" last="Pretzlaff"] - Gaylord LB/TE - 2024
Now here’s a guy who has gotten much well-deserved attention. Pretzlaff’s biggest strength is his relentless motor, as he doesn’t stop giving it his all until the whistle is blown. He’s a big, physical guy that will overpower you. On offense, he’s a great blocker who produces many pancakes while catching some passes. Defense is where Pretzlaff thrives, as he has excellent linebacker instincts, hits hard, and can even cover.
[player_tooltip player_id="249503" first="Jake" last="Zann"] - Alpena QB - 2024
While working on the 2024 rankings, I was very impressed by Zann’s upside. He’s a straight-up gunslinger who can lock, load, and fire deep balls with impressive accuracy. His throw power is also quite good, with decent throwing mechanics and fundamentals. I’m looking forward to seeing how Zann improves heading into 2022, as he has a college football ceiling.
[player_tooltip player_id="243471" first="Chris" last="Reinhold"] Jr - Cadillac LB/RB - 2023
This player had a great 2021 season, and I constantly heard his name called during week one against Fruitport. It’s been a long time since week 1, so I have no doubt he’s improved. Throughout last season he was a very aggressive, hard-nosed player who could overpower you in the run game while being a sound tackler on defense. Cadillac is a great team that has proven themselves in the postseason, so I’m very excited to see what’s to come for Reinhold and the rest of the group.
